I think that "Jinkies" is the appropriate exclamation to use when expressing surprise. But a lot of idiots on the so-called "left" are saying that "Zoinks" is the appropriate course of action here. Please help me settle this debate once and for all.

Radical centrist chiming in. It's contextual. "Jinkies!" denotes curiosity, wonder. Bewilderment, perhaps. The more immediate "Zoinks!" comes from a jolt, a startle. "Jinkies!" is a "Whoa!", where "Zoinks!" is a "Yikes!" You were correct in defining both words as an expression of surprise—however, both are correct, attached to separate definitions.

As a civil libertarian, I disapprove of saying jinkies, but I will defend to the death your right to say it.

"Zoinks" is clearly the only correct choice of exclamation. When in a state of surprise, what sort of person would have the time to be able to articulate a multi-syllabic word such as "Jinkies"? Especially if said exclamation is being used as an alarm call to your fellow your gang members in the face of a spooky skeleton and/or ghost, you need to be able to attract their attention as quickly as possible. Imagine if you start exclaiming 'Jinkies!' and a masked villain cuts your throat before you can even enunciate the second syllable? Your friends will think that you're just viciously eager for a drink.

This world that Trump is creating is going to be the end of us all.
