It's like online Diplomacy, but with other units besides tanks and ships such as air bombers, infantry, militia, etc. Battles between units are somewhat based on chance where the game system picks a number between 1 and the unit's strength. There are alliances just like the board game, but unlike the board game, Afterwind games can take place in the Americas, the Middle East, and even over the entirety of the world. You earn experience points or whatever by winning, losing, drawing, or surrendering in a game. These points can be used to purchase upgrades, such as faster militiamen, invisible submarines, and whatnot. Overall, there's tons of stuff to play around with, besides the basic gameplay of tactical war simulacra.

However, There is no learning curve, so you'll have to taking a few beatings for awhile. Since it takes awhile to unlock the upgrades, as a new player you will be at a direct disadvantage to players that already have these upgrades equipped.
