I've been playing around with simulating reaction diffusion in photoshop and thought I'd share:

Woah dude, they are awesome.
Makes me wanna get photoshop.
Some smaller images (or even sections of these larger ones) could make some cool tiles for N levels, or at least serve as inspiration.

It's fun to mess about with all the wacky Photoshop functions.

Reaction diffusion. That reminds me... I should get to revising that boring Molecular Reaction Dynamics course. :\

I made an action that consists of:

highpass ~5
threshold ~127
gaussian blur ~10

Then I applied that action iteratively to a seed image and then experimented a bunch with different processes of alternating using the action and applying filters and whatnot. You can get pretty different results if you change the initial parameters.

Oh man, that high pass + threshold combination is excellent, even a single pass looks really interesting. You get a less abstract and more psychedelic effect with a low level of blur, like 2. A couple of passes of that and then a final one without any blur to sharpen it up. And then taking the original image, putting that colour back in and exaggerating it:

This is fascinating! thanks for sharing
Run into other patten generating action stuff before? Never really used the action function and this has got me curious, was wanting to build up a library of textures.
