Okay. Three screenshots.

Look how awesome my Firefox looks now. They've fixed the look of the back/forward arrows when you drag them over to the tabbar, so they no longer look off there. I may sound pretty picky on the next paragraph, so I'll just hide it in a spoiler, after the image.
Image
Here what's happening:

the bookmark sidebar appears on the left, and I had the bookmark button on the right. That means my mouse has to travel a lot - time waste. Solutions: move the sidebar to the right; move the bookmark icon to the left; remove the bookmark icon completely and just use the fucking ctrl-b shortcut.
Problems: the sidebar on the right just looks completely awkward to me. the bookmark icon on the left looks awkward too, because the back/forward buttons are pushed away from the corner, that is the place those buttons always are in any browser. finally, i'd use the shortcut /if/ i used the touchpad to move the cursor (so my hands never leave the keyboard). this happens with my netbook, were the screen is pretty small and so i don't really need a mouse. and i notice a big increase in the speed i do some stuff, where i can just use keyboard shortcuts. but on my 16" laptop, it isn't practical at all.

So yeah, for now I'm sticking with the second option. Time'll tell if I'll get used to it or just change the goddamn sidebar to the right, like I did with foobar.

And now, foobar. The layout I'm using now is pretty much perfect, except for some details that I'm not in control of.
It's practical and it looks pretty good. Picky things after the image.
Image
foobar suffers from the same problem as XChat: design consistency. I know, I know, they're both pretty modular programs, and as such it'd be pretty difficult to have a consistent/coherent design. Still, Firefox and Opera do it!
It doesn't look bad - XChat looks worse with parts of windows 9x design there - but it could look better.
another little rant since im talkin about this

Microsoft, please, have coherent designs. you do windows 7 with blue as the ribbon color, and now you change to white on office 2010. yes, it does look much better. BUT THEN JUST RELEASE A DESIGN UPDATE is it that hard. also office 2010 has file on the button. yes, it looks better. yes you should update all those other apps.

and finally
what the fuck happened with IE. "LOL FUCK WINDOWS 7 DESIGN LET'S DO THESE OVERSIZED BUTTONS AND SHIT it looks good alone so fuck everything else

Finally finally, Tsukatu, that is surprisingly sexy.

Best OS ever. I love how this computer is almost 12 years old yet I can still use it for daily browsing. Okay, most of the daily browsing I do.
