-----------------------------------

Q: WHAT IS MAPDRAFT ARCANA?
mapdraft : arcana is a mapper's tool designed to inspire, invigorate, and empower. those suffering from mapper's block, ennui, or simply desire an alternative method to mapping will find solace here.

using incredible coding and design a powerful array of fortune-telling tools and creativity and wit holistic earth magic, a powerful mechanism of fate has been created. will you deal the cards and let an unseen hand decide the path of your map? forge a path of your own design. With each iteration of cards, remember a different destiny is only a click away...

Q: WHAT IS REQUIRED OF ME?
you need bring naught but yourself. quiet your mind and take a deep breath before supplication. when the fates have dealt their hand, receive the foretellings by clicking on the booster given to you. then inspect your cards and create a map, obeying all guidelines found within.

remember, the cards will decree the method in which you create your map.
You have the right to place these objects by yourself, in any map:
one Ninja
any amount of Gold you wish
one Exit Switch
one Exit Door
everything else will be provided to you.

when you have attained a state of peaceful introspection, continue through the following link:
MAPDRAFT:ARCANA.
fate in all her glory smiles at you evermore.

-------------------------------
INTERPRETING THE READINGS
unlike its rowdy cousin, mapdraft:arcana is designed to be free and open, with lots of flexibility regarding mapmaking.
if cards are drawn that conflict with each other, bending or otherwise 'fixing' the rulings is under one's perogative.
however, remember to follow in the spirit of the arcana and obey the fates to the best of your ability.
working under interesting and new conditions is healthy, engaging, and most importantly, good for one's creative sense.
as always, good luck, have fun, and enjoy yourself.

Be sure to tag your submissions with ARCANA and lead others to their destiny.

-------------------------------
lots of love to you all-

MAPDRAFT ARCANA EDITIONS
mapdraft arcana editions is to be a series of packs, comprising all participating contributions, one map by each participant each edition.
if you wish to participate, you will be added to the next edition and be notified when it's starting. this is to keep flexible any time constraints so there is no deadline pressure. when an edition starts, booster packs will be randomly generated and given by an arcana manager. the map you submit for that booster will be then added to that edition with a link to the booster you were given. the maps in an edition will be compiled and linked here, and a new edition started with the participants that signed up.

Oh thanks! That's cool! But it would be awesome if people (users and creative mappers) could propose some 'cards' (rules) for you to choose and perhaps add them so that way it could be more complex (talking for the depth and the functionality of the helpful awesome mapping tool) and above all, more participative.
You mind if I create a thread for people to propose some new cards to be added?

Well, the last MapDraft tried that, and it died out because the rules people made were awful. Browse some maps tagged MAPDRAFT and you'll see the horrors yourself. Now, what I do promote is maybe like, one extra card which is like "Create your own rule." so that everyone at some point has a chance to do to. But don't keep the rules. If you keep the card count small, and focus on only the essentials, the percentage of "bad" hands is lowered, and already, you have a ton of hand possibilities:

Major Option (Intuition) x 1 *
Major Option (Insight/Instinct) x 3 * Minor Option x 2

(7) * (14 * 13 * 12) * (54 * 53) = 43,754,256

Then again, I didn't major in math, so don't trust me with anything.

Yeah I know. Anyway I was just proposing to propose proposals. Of course it should carry a quality control and consequent choice, I guess any proposed card could be invalid or horrible but finally it will be the managers who have the final decision on which and which not to be included. I think we could at least try it.

Made my 100th map for Arcana. Such an awesome idea, and I really like the design of the actual site. <3

The original rounds of MapDraft heavily featured user content and was pretty psycho. Not saying that's bad, but we were definitely aiming for something a little smoother and less wild with this Arcana spin-off.

We have a lot of content already planned for Mapdraft:Arcana, and while usermade cards are a possibility (and some have already been included in upcoming sets), for the time being they will be kept to a minimum.

However, the original still holds a special place in my heart, and in the future a revival of the oldschool MapDraft is something i've been entertaining. That's the place where tons and tons of user-created content would be found. Sorry to shoot you down, but in the weeks to come we'll see what happens ^_^

Ok guys, thank you for the quick response. I understand it. I closed (if an admin can close it properly without deleting it would be much better) the Thread for the user proposals I made. MAPDRAFT : ARCANA seems super awesome anyhow, thanks!

Oh yeah, this should be obvious from the fact that I already posted a map, but I'm just saying that I'm in with Editions as well.

That is why I decline the title of Iron Cook and accept only the lesser title of Zinc Saucier, which I just made up. Also, it comes with double prize money!

Hey, so I've had a play around with this but I'm not sure it's displaying correctly on my computer (macbook using safari) here's a screenshot:

http://f.cl.ly/items/3w152V3O3C373j3F2r ... .27.05.png

The cards aren't fanning out, and don't rotate when clicked (took me a while to work out where the actual mapping rules were supposed to be). I checked firefox and chrome and they both seem to work just fine. So far as I could tell, poking around with 'Inspect Element', the javascript that toggles the 'flipped' class is working, but then for some reason the css isn't responding to reflect the change... couldn't easily tell what was supposed to be spreading the cards out so no idea why that part isn't working.

Oh also, this is absolutely gorgeous, whoever is responsible for the CSS did a damn fine job. I love that everything down to the suit symbols on the cards is pure HTML+CSS <3
