I would at some stage like to see EddyMataGallos versus macrohenry compete live for a 1.4 playthrough on twitch.tv or YouTube or something. You could use multitwitch to view two streams at once.

I thought since you're both in similar timezones, this could be a possibility. We could even consider having "Time outs" for breaks.

Would anyone else be interested in tuning in, even just partially?

I would join just to show off how often I suicide. But seeing as how I don't have a completed .sol, I sadly must decline.

why would you need one? The point is to start off with a blank sol.
If you wanted to compete, you could just make a backup of your sol, then reset it. Remember the goal is to be the first to complete the game from a blank sol file.

That could be interesting. I can't recall, has anybody ever done a complete speedrun-ish type run of the game? I can only imagine that this would be basically an all day event, so I'm not sure if its as feasible to do the entire game. Possibly spread it out over 5 days/weekends doing 2 columns at a time, to make it more manageable? Either way, I think I would be interested in seeing how great highscorers go about just playing the game (and potentially competing if allowable).
[16:24] <@golfkid> I'm pretty sure I will literally scream if I die on the last column of 78-4 at this point
[16:25] <trance> Oh, yeah. That level.
[16:29] <@golfkid> lol
[16:30] <@golfkid> It looks so simple
[16:30] <@golfkid> But it says "NO! I will rape your sanity!"

Yeah, there is at least one precedent, which I looked at again earlier today.
It took 999_Springs 9 hours and 11 minutes of continuous gameplay, 11 hours and 10 minutes including breaks. I would imagine that time could easily be slashed by hours by the champions of our game.

It'll be me, three days later, completing the first two columns. "That's it I quit! I'm leaving forever good day sir!"

It does sound like a fun thing to do. I was just reading 999_Springs's post yesterday and thought I might do a full playthrough some time just for fun. Seeing the best players play the game live would be pretty cool too.

Haha, I know myself: When I see that Eddy is ahead of me I'll get nervous and I'll fail completely. But still, I think I'd try that one day. I suggest speedrunning all 100 episodes to also test the endurance of the player.

metanet should take their fat $ony buxx and pay to fly top highscorers to a single venue for this sort of event

wow this would be really cool. (also yay my thread got mentioned :D )

haha i remember fondly the early days in my university life which i could afford to squander by choosing to play n all day. i wish i was a first year student again... life right now really sucks

but anyway when i was doing the whole game speedrun, a lot of time was spent unnecessarily testing out routes for the harder, non-linear levels, such as 24-2, 29-3 (rocket section), 29-4, 37-3, 59-1, 59-3, 69-2, 79-3, 79-4, 83-3, 85-3, 86-4, 89-4, 97-2. i would have been able to get rid of maybe an hour and a half, maybe more, if i'd just memorised routes and practised them beforehand. i didn't include stuff like 59-4, 69-4, 86-3, 88-4, 96-4 because they're linear and it's just a matter of doing what is in front of you. but yeah i don't feel like doing that again >_<

also i did spend maybe 15mins writing up the log (as fast as i could, which is why it reads a bit rushed) as i was going along, which is obviously non-essential for a speedrun.

you might also want to read the column speedrun thread to give you more insight on how this would work. dw40/banjodave listed analu's column speeding records on the old metanet forums, some of which are rather ridiculous (31mins for the 80's column? 20mins for the 90's column? REALLY?) and he personally states that
DW40 wrote:With loads of practice I reckon a 3h30m - 4h time is possible. Maybe one day.
which i think is really ambitious but he probably knows this stuff more than i do.

but sure, with a bit of practice and route memorisation beforehand a six-hour time is certainly within reach for eddy+macrohenry. i'd certainly watch it if i could. i mean eddy beat n v2 incredibly quickly as soon as it came out... this would be thrilling to watch

haha i once had a dream like that, in which ben schultz got hold of a portal device and an abandoned multi-storey underground bunker and used the portal device to try to gather n speedrunners across the planet together to compete on a few levels deep inside his bunker. it was about to start, then i woke up.
Achievements:

Completed N and NReality.
106 N v1.4 highscores.
I used to maintain 1000 NReality Level Top20 Highscores - Ranked 0th
Former Owner of Episode 169, way back when.
I've taken 10 Metanet 0ths. 6 of them lasted <2 days. I don't have any of them anymore. >:(
Third Place in BLUR 4 highscore.
Not highscoring anymore until v2.

That wasn't a dream. That event was supposed to be permanently erased from your memory.
