no, ska, you haven't yet got the hang of this new-fangled malarkey thingy that is "facebook". it's a secret group, which means you can't actually see anything unless an existing group member invites you to join. in other words, step 4 is impossible.

lol, springs didn't get invited... this reminds me of that time when you got in the top-20 of top-20s, only to get abruptly ejected, or the top-20 of 0ths, only to immediately get kicked out, then go on to lose every single 0th.

Bump. Now that the forums are back online, I need a final word on who's volunteering to judge. Three are necessary, but having one or two reserves would be helpful if someone inexplicably drops off the map. I also would appreciate some suggestions and feedback from highscorers as to the format of the highscoring portion of the contest.

I'd like to start sign-ups soon so that I can close them -- and start the tournament -- when my semester break begins in about two and a half weeks.

Sparknotes: If you'd like to judge, say so. If you plan on highscoring, help me decide the format. Cheers!

Does being a judge preclude one from being a mapper as well? I would happily do both, but I'd choose mapping over judging if they turned out to be mutually exclusive.

You cannot map and judge. Also, judges can't fill out a bracket for Bracketology. You can still highscore, however.

Eddy, thank goodness you saw this. I need help deciding the format for the highscoring portion of the tournament. Any ideas? My winter break begins after my final this evening, so if we can get the format decided and find another judge for the mapping tournament then we can start sign-ups very soon!

I won't be participating, but you should have the highscoring set up so that your average improvement over all the maps is your score, e.g. if the first five scores on a map are:

86.050
86.000
85.875
85.875
85.800

Then the scores for the map are 0, -.05, -1.75, -1.75, -2.5 (my math could be wrong, soz). And you just do this for every map (you need deadlines for submitting demos too), and average out the scores. Maybe if a player gets a two-week streak he'll get +1 point.

As a runner, I'm favoring the following scoring system myself:

On every map, top 5 scores get 5, 4, 3, 2, and 1 point respectively. These values get higher in later rounds -- say, 10, 8, 6, 4, and 2. Most points after the tournament is over is the winner.
