Even though N itself runs on it without any lag at all, my computer will not get a geek hard and so when I play N it causes applications that play media to noticeably lag. For example I cannot listen to a music video on youtube while playing N because it will stop and start constantly. Likewise with WMP, and a few other media players I have.

Does anybody know of ways to reduce this lag? I've turned the N settings down to lowest quality, turned off the volume in N, played with the smallest window possible etc. I have Windows XP.

Also, does anybody know of any media players that are not lagged out by N? I really want to rock out to some Rise Against while dodging rockets :p

thanks if anyone can help <3

He has ultra-slow computer.

A flash 1.75 Mb shouldn't make other programs lag.

I didn't think my computer was that slow, even though it is kinda old. N doesn't lag anything other than media players, and N itself runs constantly at 8ms/f
Here are some of my properties:
Intel Pentium D CPU 2.80 GHz
512 MB RAM
I'm not sure where to find info on my sound or video or anything though.

It's not about the size of the program. We all know that N uses a lot of CPU power when running.

I've only run N on Windows XP, but this advice should probably work on any Windows platform. Press ctrl+alt+del to get to the Task Manager, go to the Processes tab, right-click on the N process (n_v14.exe), select Set Priority > Below Normal. That'll tell your computer to slow N down if other programs, like a browser or music player, need more of the processor.

And if you want to automate that so you don't have to use task manager every time you play N, you can use a batch file. Create a new file n_v14.bat in your N folder and paste this text in there:
start /belownormal n_v14.exe
Then double-click the bat file instead of the exe to open N.

I have the same problem with music lagging with too many things open. Fro me, the solution aws to switch from Firefox to Chrome and from Windows Media Player to Winamp. Winamp uses bugger all of the cpu (less than 1% for me, I did a very mimimal install). The only trouble i have with winamp is that I can't sort the playlist, other than that, its perfect.

hope that helps.

EDIT: you have an almost identical computer. I may have a smidgen more processor, but they're practically the same.
