Aww, you cutey! We don't actually play that one anymore, but it's the one everyone asks for. Perhaps we judged too soon...

La Roux - she's ginger and pasty pale and her voice is English and good and she writes lovely pop songs. I am in love a little bit.

Do you not find her voice incredibly grating?

Music I'm digging at the moment... Grammatics. They're formed from the ashes of a metal band, and make beautiful soaring rock songs - Especially Broken Wing
mp3.

I guess not or I suppose I wouldn't really enjoy her songs anywhere near as much. I'm just speculating, though :p

'In For The Kill' is the only track she sings high pitched in (I'm assuming this is the 'voice' you mean), everything else I've heard by her she sings in a much smoother tone.

I'm asked most of the #music denizens this question with not much luck so I'll throw it out here as well. I've been looking for a female vocalist with the same vocal style as Janis Joplin but with a more piano-centric, jazzy approach to the instrumentation. Preferably she'd be from the last decade or so. Any suggestions?

War Child Presents Heroes!

Peaches cover of Search and Destroy is minimalist and awesome. The Yeah Yeah Yeahs cover of "Sheena" is just fun, and TV on the Radio cover the title track like God's gift to remixes.

Oh, and Duffy doing live and let die is sexy as all hell.

Grizzly Bear's Veckatimest

I like that the cut they atmospherics and precious flourishes of Yellow House and really focused on songwriting.

I like Yellow House, but a lot of songs seem tangential and wandering and rely too heavily on it's production. While this one has some nifty production tricks, the songs just sound more like complete ideas.

The rip I have doesn't represent a lot of the subtlety that's in it, but it's a satisfying record, so far.

These guys are 3/3.

Well, here I am with more music I'm totally in love with.

The first is, of course, my Tesla Coil Music, because it's absolutely awesome. If you haven't seen the videos, I highly recommend that link. :D

Also, I would really recommend listening to Song In The Night (Chanson Dans La Nuit) by Salzedo. It's a wonderful harp piece, and also one which I'll be learning over the next few months.

Mostly, I've been listening to Australian alt-rock outfit, Midnight Oil. The Oils are pretty spotty, but they've got some awesome songs; Diesel and Dust is an amazing album.

Image

The soundtrack to Dr. Horrible's Sing-a-long Blog has been on my iPod a lot lately, too. Same goes for Hedwig and the Angry Inch.

Also, the Hives are awesome. Absolutely the least pretentious band of all time, and the pretty well the only band in the garage rock revival that doesn't suck.

This album cover is ridiculously awful. I'm placing on my awful album covers list just below Merriweather Post Pavilion and just above Zip Zap Rap.

Also, I've been digging on Reggie Watts recently. Downloads is free, lol?
