My smile is a rifle
Won't you give it a try?
So we like the way we dance baby
When notes come to you
I know i love you
You're all i see
My smile is a rifle
And what are you?
My smile is a rifle
I'm pointing it at you
My smile is a rifle
You'll know when you bring me in from the rain

A Night at the Opera - Queen
Besides the overall awesomeness of Bohemian Rhapsody, there's Death on Two Legs, '39, I'm In Love With My Car, The Prophet's Song, You're My Best Friend, Sweet Lady, and the rest of the songs on the album. Really appeals to all of my music tastes(besides my funkay side), and is the best album I know of.
Trash - Alice Cooper
His best album, in my opinion, and one of his heaviest. I like all of the songs, most of all Bed of Nails, and the album is what got me into hard rock and metal.
Vulgar Display of Power - Pantera
Er...I'm not up for describing anymore, I'm tired. I'll finish it later.

Sung Tongs - Animal Collective
Alone or with friends, going extremely fast or extremely slow, night or day, up or down, this album to me is everything. It is almost perfection, if there is such a thing. The ambience of the acoustic guitars and the way each note and chord is played provides the trickle or stream of water that contrasts wonderfully with the vocals that often evoke a humid summer day. This is very earthy and the most "natural" sound that I believe Animal Collective has developed. This is perhaps why it is so appealing and why it feels appropriate to listen to it while taking a walk during sunset on a warm evening.

Well. My music tastes vary quite alot, but right now these are my top 3 albums:
The Decemberists - The Hazards of Love
Love the way this album merges song into song, like one big story. The Decemberists have always been storytellers through song, but this album takes the cake for me.
Grandaddy - Sumday
I first found out about Grandaddy while watching 28 Days Later (which features their song "A.M. 180") and was immediately hooked. It's too bad these guys weren't more popular when they were around...they deserved it.
Kaiser Chiefs - Off With Their Heads
I love this album, so many catchy, memorable (for me, anyways) songs on it. In my opinion, this album epitomizes the Kaiser Chiefs.

Something that I didn't notice until now is that all of these albums include orchestral instruments.
Arcade Fire - Funeral
This album is filled with yelps and warbling vocals that are so expressive and forlorn, and the instrumentation is diverse and lush. The whole theme of independence from parents (and also from traditional ideals and dogma) certainly appeals to me, so if I'm just listening to the music or I'm focusing on its philosophical relevance, it's all good!
Joanna Newsom - Ys
Everything about this record is intricate and fantastically beautiful. Lyrically complex tales of folklore and bucolic imagery placed over harp and backing orchestration combine with terrific effect, and Joanna Newsom's voice is once more very expressive and original. It's a great place to visit for an hour.
Stars of the Lid and Their Refinement of the Decline
I'm not really sure what to say about this one, except for that it's the most stunning thing I've ever listened to.

1. Senses Fail - Still Searching
Purely because the songs flow so well into each other; there's almost no pause between each song and the album played track after track tells a story.
2. Enter Shikari - Take to the Skies
As with the Senses Fail album, the songs on this album work so well with each other, love every song on the album.
3. Jimmy Eat World - Futures
Love every song.

It's All In Your Head - Eve 6
-Every song on this album sounds awesome, and certain songs have memories tied to them, so ... yeah.
Through the Window - Something Corporate - Piano rock is awesome. This is just another awesome album with awesome lyrics and awesome memories. Also, awesome.
Stories and Alibis - Matchbook Romance - I'm sure this album's in the top three for a reason. I just don't know why.
There's your explanations, now get back to making maps, pplz!
Honorable mentions go out to Explosions in the Sky (all *mind-blowing yet calm* instrumental), Beck, and assorted video game soundtracks.
I'm traveling to the other music topics now.

This thread seems ripe for revival.
1.
Massive, darkly beautiful, endlessly interpretable. Like diving into a dark, swirling pond. If you've never heard of Swans before, this is where to start.
2.
After this album, Cohen started his long, painful decent into utter mediocrity, but that doesn't change the fact that this is a glorious work.
3.
I've always been a bit confused as to how something commonly described as "avant-folk" can sound more like some crazy pre-Christian ritual celebration than anything else ever.

You chose Cartel over Chroma, Aidiera?
Also, I don't know if I could pick a top three, but they're in here somewhere:

I really like the first half of it, but after "The Fortunate" (which is one of my favorite Cartel songs, actually) it starts to lose its appeal for me. That doesn't happen to me on Chroma. Mew - And The Glass Handed Kites
Voice is incredible, lovely oddities throughout including slightly confusing time signatures. I think one of the main thing that attracts me to the music is how the voice is so angelic and contrasts against the darker music that backs it.
The Tallest Man On Earth - The Wild Hunt
Gorgeous lyrics, wonderful guitar playing, great melodies, and his voice is really captivating. It's the kinda thing you either love or hate though I think, voice is divisive.
Nosaj Thing - Drift
kind of orchestral sounding, ever-slightly though. Electronic music, hip-hop influenced, very cool. Nice Atmospheric sounds as well adding more depth
MF Doom - Operation Doomsday
Doom's most consistent solo album I reckon (though i need to hear his stuff under his alias of Viktor Vaughn still). Love his delivery, and his rhyming patterns flip really well quite often, making it much more interesting than a lot of rap which sticks to the same kind of pattern for a verse or song etc etc. Cool beats too. Best Verse I've heard from Kurious George on '?' as well. Seems to suit Dooms beats more than he does his own
At The Drive-In - Acrobatic Tenement
This sounds horrible, but I love it. Short garage-y post-hardcore tracks. They're short and angsty and loud and messy. The music feels angry rather than the more carefully constructed and mixed later albums and especially mars volta's stuff
Architecture In Helsinki - In Case We Die
Cute, quirky pop songs, loved it ages ago, still like it a lot, sign of a good album for me. If I can still listen to a bit it now without getting sick of it within 2 songs. Yeah. (with the exception of when I go through phases and get re-addicted to albums)
The Strokes - Room on Fire
I love the strokes. This album is just really fun. Best thing about Julian's voice is you can sing along and fuck up and it doesn't even matter, you just slur everything with this big croon and it sounds fine haha. But seriously, I really adore this album. I think everyone was a little disappointed by it after Is This It?, But I reckon it was even better, at least for my tastes. (Having said that, Is This It? could easily be on this list, just thought I'd stick to one album per artist)
Arctic Monkeys - Whatever People Say I Am That's What I'm Not
This was all I listened to for a good year back when I was 14 or 15. I still like it. It's up here for similar reasons as AIH - In Case We Die
Animal Collective - Merriweather Post Pavilion
There's many AC tracks I adore, but all the albums seem to have a few tracks that bring the whole thing down a little. This one is the most consistently brilliant I reckon, so i picked it. All the songs on this are very listenable, some just got a bit old with time due to the more poppy nature. Still there are some stand outs that are still really really great to listen to regularly like Guys Eyes and Taste.
I kinda rushed through this, there's probably some I missed, and I know the descriptions weren't good, plus I went over 3 but. eh.

Also, I don't own Revolver or the other "best" Beatles albums like Sgt. Pepper's, Rubber Soul, etc. I have no idea why that patch is missing from the family music collection, but it is. Magical Mystery Tour is a lot of fun to listen to and, like Slaps said, has a lot of hits (which I suppose are part of the fun).
