No, that's just the way ADSL works, brah'. ISP's advertise in bits per second; you download in bytes.jackass wrote:Hi all ill try my best to describe this, im on a 12 gig liberty plan with bigpond, i think its adsl and im supposed to be recieving 256kb/s but im only recieving 25kb/s . i dont know whats wrong its been like this a while and i think it may be due to the way it setup. so can anyone give me a step by step guide on installing my modem? it woould really help.

...install the modem?
All good internet companies usually come to your place and install the modem for you. You could call their customer service representatives and complain that the guy who came and gave you the modem didn't do his job.
Unnleeeeeesss, you ordered online and the modem came in the mail. Then it usually has a CD on how to install the modem (I know, because I've gotten 2 different modems by 2 different companies and both did so).
Either way, you could still call customer service, ask for technical help, and they should be able to help you out.

No. He installed the modem fine. The reason he has bad internet is he didn't understand the advertisement properly.

You saw 256 kilobits per second (kbps). Everything you are seeing is measured in kilobytes (KBps) per second. 1 byte = 8 bits. 256kbps/8 = 32KBps. The difference from 25 to 32 KBps is pretty standard for the difference between theoretical and actual speeds you will see.
