I'd like to say this is awesome. Free - especially legal and free - music is something that should be shared.

Heh, I was just expecting a thread, not a whole site. This is cool.

I've done my first music entry. I'm trying to find music constantly and as soon as I do, and see that it's top notch, I'll make an entry for it.

Great idea for a website.

You should check out Capybara - great new band, their album is free to download.
We reviewed it on Monkton Vs Plankton: http://monktonvsplankton.tumblr.com/pos ... g-capybara
Their website: http://www.capybaramusic.com/
Direct link to album download: http://www.capybaramusic.com/music/capybara.zip

They are a bit like the non-rock equivalent to Menomena.

Suggestions

Ghostly Swim - I know PALEMOON posted some stuff from this label earlier, but if you've never heard of Ghostly International, this is a great album with which to get acquainted. Mainly electronic music, it features many of the great artists to be found on the label.

Warm and Scratchy - A fun little collection filled with interesting songs you may not have heard from some of your favorite indie bands. The download link for the album didn't work for me, so you may have to download each mp3 individually.

Defiance, Ohio - String based punk band. Sounds strange, yes, but their music is free, so give it a listen and you may be surprised. I recommend The Fear, The Fear, The Fear.

QUOTE UNQUOTE RECORDS - An entirely donation based label, it has all kinds of music available for free download. It's mainly geared towards punk rock, but there are a few other types of acts as well. My favorites were Shinobu, Laura Stevenson, and The Matt Kurz One.

Havalina Rail Co. - Now defunct, they have made two albums available on their website. One is Russian Lullabies, and the other is We Remember Anarchy, a compilation album which also includes some unreleased material. Definitely worth the download.

SlappyMcGee, unfortunately, isn't going to be able to continue with this project. We've adopted Yahoozy in his place, though, and that's pretty rad.

I suggest "The Rescue" by Explosions in the sky. They're offering it as a free download on their website http://www.explosionsinthesky.com/the_rescue.html

The Thousands of Reflections demo is really quite good. Sometimes post-rock, sometimes post-hardcore. Good stuff.

Ehhh. The film's in my blood though.
That is not a free album. Try to understand the basic notion of the thread before posting.

The concept of free is difficult to define, I suppose.

Tanner, do The Beatles A Hard Day's Night next. The music is free if you buy the record.

I stickied this because I like it and it has made progress. Also, since I got kicked out of the band, I can safely consider myself a neutral third party.

The Free Shit blog has an excellent attrition rate and it is to that rate that we owe the pleasure of regaining SlappyMcGee and adding Evil_Bob (AKA Seaword) to our ranks. We've had to let Yahoozy go but since he didn't do anything anyway I don't feel bad about it.

I know my comments have no sway as to what goes on the blog, but I would like to see a post involving the bands of N players. I know atob has "The Forest and the Fire," Evil_Bob has "Going Postal," and Donfuy has "Iconoclasts." Any other bands can be involved, but it would be nice to give them some exposure.
