Pembie's vanished into the ethers of Real Life, Chase's beautiful Chrome nonetheless stagnates with unfixed bugs, and the other two skins are 1. generic, but well-meaning or 2. ugly as hell. We have a number of beautiful concept skins that have been designed that, nevertheless, are doomed to sitting in the Image forum forever. ;_;

I vote that we, the Metanet community, take matters into our collective hands.

I ("We") need:
Imagers. Potato, Gimp, whatever you can manage with. Your job will be to slice up existing forum concepts (if necessary) and even to make new skins (if the mood strikes you).
Themers. This is similar to the Coders job, except that it's optimal for you to have experience working with phpBB: I'm working on learning the system right now. Your job will be to create a functioning skin exoskeleton which the Coders and Imagers can style up and make look pretty.
Coders of the HTML/CSS variety. Unless we have an unprecedented amount of work, I can handle most all of this. Your job will be to work on the skin visuals (see above).
Test Users. Your job will be to join the forum once the rest of the team gets it set up and fiddle around with the features, reporting bugs if you find any. Ideally, if several people join, we can promote them to different levels and test name colors and styles.

If you want to apply, post here and tell me what you intend to do, and I'll add you to the team.
===
Conceptual skins: (ordered by author, alphabetically; most of this stuff is quite old) Skins in progress:
  • Ortskin
Other, skin-related: Suggestions:
  • Notebook- or book-type theme with handwriting font like this or this
    [Edol]
===
The Team:
Basically everyone is a Test User until further notice.
  • incluye - Team Leader, Coder, Imager, Themer
  • Ad - Imager, of sorts
  • Chase - Imager
  • Techno - Imager
  • Animator - Test User
  • Inspired - Test User
  • Rhekatou - Test User
  • maestro - Imager, Coder
  • LittleViking - Themer
  • Yanni - Motivator Supreme
[unofficial position, temporary, tentative]
===
Current Job:

Ortskin

Staff: maestro (Themer, Coder, Imager); incluye (Coder, Test User); Inspired, Chase and Animator (Test Users).

Progress:
  1. Preliminary imaging
    • Index view
    • Forum view
    • Topic view
    • Misc (User Control Panel, etc.)
  2. Coding pages
    • Index view
    • Topic view
    • Forum view
    • Misc (User Control Panel, etc.)
  3. Styling
    • Index view
    • Topic view
    • Forum view
    • Misc (User Control Panel, etc.)
  4. Testing
  5. Elimination of bugs
  6. Done!
===
The Queue: (all skins will require at least 4 test users)
  • m9orange improvement project.

I'd really like it if a bunch of guys could help make maestro's skin a reality. He's always around, and prolly just needs some GODDAMN MOTIVATION >:( >:( to get the thing up and running. It's also a stark contrast in concept from the other three skins available (and the skins up there on your list) - it'd be real nice to have a change. All that aside, it's exceedingly awesome, so there's really not much going against it.

Don't make me get a restraining order on you.

But, uh, I'd like to make my skin happen. The thing is, I'd want to handle all the images, HTML, and CSS myself, but I would be interested in maybe working with someone who knows their way around phpBB.

Which side?

Oh, wait, I didn't see the link because—gasp—links aren't distinguishable from regular text in Chase's skin!

Also, I know a bit of jQuery, which we could use to change the forum colors pretty easily.

I have no knowledge in coding whatsoever, except that <b> </b> makes something bold in HTML.

However, I could create a few more mock ideas/images if you'd like.

I love maestro's skin.
Can't we use that. (?)

Altough, I like incluye's Metanet Blue Design, and MICC skin.
  • Techno's Forum Skin Attempt 1
  • Techno's Forum Skin Attempt 3
Are also my faves.

What did you think this thread was for, incidentally?

Yes, Techno, go wild. But we're doing stro's skin first.

Themers will probably have the easiest time starting with prosilver or subsilver, the included phpBB themes, and then modifying them as needed. maestro's skin looks like it'll require a lot of template customization though, so even with the starting point, it's no easy task. Anyway, needless to say, I'm digging through the theme files right now. No promises.

Looking at them right now, phpBB looks positively perplexing. O_O

Not that I can do anything that you could need, but I have an idea if you go with something new:
A notebook theme, (*searches in Google for something*) something like this, or this, adjusted to the layout we use. I'd also suggest lines like in a notebook, and a handwriting-like font (combination of these, maybe?).
Just a thought, actually.

I liked the idea, but not the examples you gave. I expected something more plain.

However, that idea is possible, I liked it.

Anyone?

Oh, don't look at the given layout and others, I was just talking about the notebook/book background. I'd suggest the icons looking like hand-drawn.

What? That would go perfectly with the design. I mean, the whole thing would be ugly and cheesy and I'd never use it, but handwritten-style everything would go perfectly.

Handwritten style is nice, but it would be ugly if there was a skin in that concept.

I find it really hard to understand your twisted thoughts; you're saying that it would be ugly to have icons that actually fit to the skin? You're suggesting icons such as, for example, are these at m9orange? Pff...

I would love a skin that looked exactly like metanet.2.forumer.com

Alright, an old-style Metanet skin. Any volunteers? I can handle imaging (as most of it's done already) and coding, need a themer and some test users though.
