The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou, for obvious reasons.

A Clockwork Orange, for obvious reasons.

The Big Lebowski, because it is very excellent.

Until recently, maybe The Shining? There are so many great movies. But my new favorite, which I spent late last night into morning watching, is without a doubt Oldboy. It's slick and unflinching and totally exhausting, yet also highly entertaining and shockingly funny. It's one of those films you sometimes have to laugh not because anything that funny is happening, but because it's the only way you know how to process what's happening. But also sometimes because of coal-black humor. I bleakly await the American "adaptation."

I can't ever decide a favourite...I always hate being asked. But some of the films I've enjoyed over the years are: Lucky Number Slevin, Donnie Darko, 9, and The Departed.

My favorite genre is comedy, my favorite movie is Animal House. An absolute classic, I won't hear a word against it.

Any of the LotR trilogy for general nerdy excellence, most of Star Wars (III wasn't that great) for the same reason, the latest Transformers movie for a great remix of a classic - haven't seen the new sequel though, and I've heard its supposed to suck - Ghost rider, same, and Monty Python and the Holy Grail, for obvious reasons. That's all I can think of for right now.

And yes I am aware of the grammatical butchery of that sentence, including but not limited to abuse of commas and that rare classification of run-on fragment.

The Third Man
Sunset Boulevard
Sweet Smell of Success
The Seventh Seal
L.A. Confidential
Rear Window (Alfred Hitchcock version)
Great Expectations (David Lean version)
The Good, the Bad and the Ugly

Very hard to pick, but these would all definitely make the top ten; the other two places constantly change.

To be honest, despite that I am a film major, I have never been a huge movie person. I love watching them, but I could never tell you who directed what (aside from the obvious like Star Wars or Indiana Jones etc.), or who acted in what. My favorite movie from when I was younger was Independence Day, but I've revised that to The Prestige. There are so many movies I haven't seen, like 2001 A Space Odyssey, Breakfast at Tiffany's, Citizen Kane, The Life Aquatic, Titanic, or any other movies deemed to be "classics" by film buffs. Actually, aside from Star Wars, Lord of the Rings, and 95% of The Truman Show (<3 that movie - or at least what I've seen), I have not seen a single movie mentioned in this thread. I want to direct/write/film movies one day, but I just kind of live along the lines of, "Meh, if I get the chance to see it I might."

The Prestige is so brilliantly directed. Every scene is amazing. Good move for a film major to learn from, definitely.
