Well, being in Australia, the new season of Futurama hasn't reached my shores, so I took it upon myself to download the first half-hour of the premiere. I must say, I was quite disappointed. Now I'm not one to gripe for no good reason, but I feel that the show has come to a grinding halt in terms of quality. There were some jokes in the show that were funny, granted, but Family Guy and The Simpsons do the same thing. There is just no substance to these shows now, especially considering how well they were crafted before. It is damn well annoying. The jokes (and by extension the writing) now have slipped in quality, which is surprising, when you take into account the (in my opinion) fantastic writing of the past. Even the DVD movies, which were made and released only a couple of years ago, stepped up to the plate. Even one of the writers of the show, Ken Keeler stated that writing movies would be difficult because they hadn't done it before. And yet, they all turned out to be solid. It seems odd to me that they cannot write to the standard that they once hit, being so experienced and seasoned in writing TV shows.
I know many of you guys are big fans of the show, and I wouldn't mind hearing others opinions on the new season.
Futurama is back? So?

As resident "Administrator with Fry as Avatar", let me weigh in.
The first two episodes were very strongly written; good gags, neat plots, interesting shit. But sadly, they suffered from pacing issues and the voice actors are really not hitting the right cues. The third episode, which is sadly the worst yet, did a lot to fix that pacing; they slowed it down. Specifically, DiMaggio and West started enunciating better, becoming bender and fry as opposed to caricatures. But many of the jokes in episode 3 were poor; it would have fit in as the worst episode of season 3. But that might not be such a bad thing; a return to pacing for Futurama could bode really well for the future. Give these writers and characters at least two more episodes to grow.

Don't get me wrong, Slaps, I am a patient person, and I think that if any T.V show deserves time, it's Futurama. I am just anxious about what road the show will take, and I think a hell of a lot of the fans are also (based on what I have read online). As I said to my friend the other day, I have great faith in the show. It was just a little surprising and disconcerting for me how the episode that I saw panned out.
As a side note, I agree with you about the voice acting, but being that I haven't got access to the other episodes, I can't say whether or not it has improved.

It already did.987654321 wrote:I really hope Futurama doesn't get axed like Arrested Development did. But the ratings are strong right now.

If you understand torrent software, it should not be too difficult.
Moreover, largely due to the swap to Comedy Central, the airing of this show in other countries is very unlikely for now. Torrenting now and buying the DVD sets later, as probably all of us will do, is an alternative that nets the most money for the Futurama staff AND Comedy Central.

I torrented the first one, but I haven't found any good quality torrents of the other episodes. But yeah, This is exactly what i will be doing. There is no way that I wouldn't buy the DVDs. I do the same thing with CDs; if I can't find one that I am looking for, I download it, and when I find it in a store, I will buy it.SlappyMcGee wrote:It already did.987654321 wrote:I really hope Futurama doesn't get axed like Arrested Development did. I've been here for ten minutes trying to guess what the website is. If it's not Slice toe grunt, what is it?
