Wee!
Edit: ONOZ, my sig gets a little tweaked on the new skin. I'll have to play around with that. Nice work, though. I'll give it a whirl for a while to see how I like it.

First impressions: I really, really like it. Great job you two have done here.
One thing annoys me:
It needs a transition from the map to the logo (where the arrows are).
I can see what Slappy means by too bright. Just after switching from Hermes, it feels really bright since Hermes was so dark.

I've been browsing in it a bit more, and I have new complaints.
1) The usernames/avatars being on the right is still bizarre, but solid.
2) Can you make the text bold for topics we haven't read and regular for topics we haven't? I like being able to tell whether or not I've read a topic at quick glance.
3) The quote boxes could be darker.
4) Techno's bar only looks like that because of the smallness of his screen/resolution/window.

I'm sure that 3 is possible, 2 I'm not so sure about. You're right about 4.SlappyMcGee wrote:I've been browsing in it a bit more, and I have new complaints.

Also, I admit it did take me a while to adjust to the profiles on the right, but now I don't mind it, and I like it a lot.

Hmm, well, incidentally, about the bold for unread topics, I'm pretty sure that's not possible with an unmodified installation. The only thing that indicates whether you've read it or not is the background image, which isn't controlled by the class of that row (they're all <li>s) but by dynamically generated inline styles, which is bullshit but I can't do anything about it.
1. They're moving back to the left. You can get used to it how it is now if you really want, but it's not necessary.
3. Yes. I will do that. I wish I had direct access to retronet. Sadly, I do not.
4. That's purposeful. The screenshot slides under the header image when the window gets narrow enough. It's not as simple as changing the header image because the logo up there (the entire enormous M) is the background of a link, and making an extra fade-out section next to the M would involve making a larger image, changing the CSS, and having a weirdly clickable area next to the header.

Why is it on Hermes that unread topics are red and read ones are blue? A similar solution to that was all that I was suggesting.

I think that's just testing whether you've visited the link or not, which is really unreliable in regards to read and unread topics.SlappyMcGee wrote:Why is it on Hermes that unread topics are red and read ones are blue? A similar solution to that was all that I was suggesting.

I'm relatively certain it's based on whether or not you've read the topic.Wight wrote:I think that's just testing whether you've visited the link or not, which is really unreliable in regards to read and unread topics.SlappyMcGee wrote:Why is it on Hermes that unread topics are red and read ones are blue? http://pastebin.com/m3cdf7e72 is another update that should adjust font weight based on whether you've read the topic or not. I'm not entirely sure if it works but there's no reason why not.
http://pastebin.com/m1810eaf6 fixes stuff not being pushed under the edit, quote, and delete buttons to the right.
http://pastebin.com/m595b9fa7 fixes admin colors again. This time for Firefox.

I love it. A few things on the "post a reply" page:
Those little post icons should be horizontally inline with the title of each post, imo. And of course, those "board index" and "Top" links are out of place.
The very bottom of the page could use a few <br/>'s.
EDIT: erm, the image got cut off? not that you're missing anything. (You an always open it in a new window.
Kudos! Guys, criticism is fine, but show a little gratitude towards these guys as well. They haven't gotten nearly enough yet. :)

I'm perfectly fine with this skin insofar and I'm very impressed with it, but one thing that bugs me is that the color of the Admin's names are yellow, and way too bright a yellow to actually read without burning your eyes. I would recommend a more golden, solid yellow (not darker, it would be too gaudy that way). Also, as I've just noticed typing this message, I scrolled down to see the previous messages and... er... well, I get the same problem heatwave does, except the bottom link where everything's raised to the mid-portion of the page, and all the comments stretch to the bottom.
Other than that, I find it perfectly fine.

We can't change them because that would muck up the other skin, and I've already posted CSS, if you can see up there, that changes the yellow admin color to dark red. It's not in my control whether it's applied to the skin or not. Talk to one of the admins.Subterfuge wrote:I'm perfectly fine with this skin insofar and I'm very impressed with it, but one thing that bugs me is that the color of the Admin's names are yellow, and way too bright a yellow to actually read without burning your eyes. The color of the topic. It is red when it is not read, and blue when it is read. This is consistent with my account on any number of computers, and therefore must be a server thing. If you could implement something like this into Retronet, it would make it BUNDLES easier to see which topics I've read.Wight wrote:Totally forgot about these. X(Chase wrote:EDIT: And the poll bars.

Ah. Then it's entirely possible that phpBB controls the :visited status for links that you've read and haven't read. My latest posted CSS should hopefully implement that for Retronet.SlappyMcGee wrote:The color of the topic. It is red when it is not read, and blue when it is read. Cool theme...but I think I'll stick with Hermes. It's easier on my eyes, and I prefer dark themes overall.
Plus, darker themes are better for the environment, because your my monitor uses less energy to display them[1].
Ok, I'll get off my environmental high horse now.

http://pastebin.com/m36574e52 brings a whole host of fixes, including ones I accidentally overwrote with CSSEdit when I was trying to make new changes, and darker themes are only better for the environment if you're using a CRT monitor, and why the fuck are you using a CRT monitor?Mute Monk wrote:Impossible! Incidentally, regarding CSSEdit; when I try to make one fix it extracts the CSS from the existing page (which sometimes has not been updated and therefore has old CSS where new should be). Therefore, could I get a notification on IRC or something that you (whichever admin decides to do it) have applied the newest changes before I try to make more? That would make our jobs a lot easier.
Thanks. :3
