Me (Oleary15), Raja12 and Snowtiger's Mapmaking Contest

The rules are very simple:
First, make a 5x5 Square. And within the 5x5 square, you MUST include the following objects:
4 Tiles of your choice
4 Mines
4 Gold Pieces
1 Rocket
1 Floorguard

NO OTHER OBJECTS ALLOWED.

When submitting, name the map like so:
[fivebyfive] *Map Title*

If you fail to name your map like that, your map will not be considered when voting!

That's it! It's that simple! Have fun, be creative! Me, Raja12, and Snowtiger will vote for the best map on Sunday, November 23rd, at 12:00am EST. Winner gets a map shoutout from all 3 of us!

Yeah, albeit not in these forums :P
I can't stand that. There seemed like no point in making that second forum. Nv2 community sometimes bothers me :\

it is a real shame in my opinion. n v2 was released only a year and a half ago and we are getting really, really close to 120000 userlevels submitted to n v2. in contrast there have only been slightly more than 5000 maps submitted to numa in that same time period. also numa itself took more than 3 years to get to 120000. but if you look through the pages of n v2 maps, almost all of them are very simplistic or just terribly crap. there is no incentive for a mapper to improve at all, like there is with numa, since there is no comment or feedback section, let alone featuring and stuff; the rating system is basically never used; and especially, maps don't get noticed for more than a few hours since there is no community integration whatsoever. after a few hours they'll drop out of the latest list and never be seen again. it's sort of pointless to even put any effort into real mapmaking unless you crosspost it to numa. however if you look through some of the playable n v2 maps you'll find a lot of demos on the scoreboard by players i've never heard of - and some of those demos are actually pretty good. that's where all the players have gone. they're there, but it's practically impossible for anybody out there to find this forum or numa to get enjoyment out of playing better maps.

it's sort of sad that players feel that the way to get a message across is by writing it in 1/4-snapped gold and mines and submit it as a map. take a look at map 120061 "How To Ghost Block?" which, at the time of writing this post, is the 9th highest rated map of all time. the concept illustrating a glitch is cool, but seriously!?

edit: the rest of the top10 rated all time maps aren't great either. they consist of three glitch-based maps that are there only because of the concept and could be a lot better, two pretty cool n-arts, a simple minejumper, two simple generic action maps (one of which is cheatable), and a pile of zap drone spam. maybe it's the rating system that needs work, but if this is supposed to be a showcase of n v2's finest maps, i fear for the future of humanity.

edit: outside the top10, #12 (119294) and #13 (114712) are actually good maps. so maybe there is hope for humanity after all...

Not sure if the top rated maps section is broken or just doesn't work as I thought it did, but it changes very, very often, so maybe its not the "top rated maps of all time" we're currently thinking of. That said, as a more or less frequent player every now and then, I can tell it does actually showcase the average v2.0 good quality standard. No wonder why all of those who find NUMA are stunned. There are some NUMA quality maps, but its really hard to spot one of these.

On the other hand, the fact that they use many maps to actually communicate is a fault of N for not including a link to the forums, not of them for having created a different forums (which I don't support).

And yes, there are many skilled players over there, the problem is that since the v2.0 community seems to be trying to emancipate they aren't getting the benefits of being around more experienced people, which is why in many aspects they are still quite noobish. Also, I find it awful that the standard competition is being carried on userlevels. Metanet levels seem to be forgotten, I literally went through all levels during 2013 summer and I still hold most of the 350 0ths I took, having barely played since.

Hey guys, just a couple of days ago I was thinking about creating a Thread talking about this sort of things and it is here now: http://forum.droni.es/viewtopic.php?f=67&t=10216
