It does clear up some of the confusion about the forty-three different meanings of the word "play". Exile and battlefield sound a bit odd, but that may just be my familiarity with the old terms. Given that it makes the rules clearer, I'm OK with that change.

What does bother me is that mana burn has been eliminated. I liked that frying yourself was an issue if you slapped Mana Flares all over the shop, and it also changes the functionality of several cards. I also despise the change to combat with multiple blockers, primarily because it prevents me dealing nonlethal damage to a bunch of creatures, then smiting them all after combat with an Earthquake or Fireball.

What really, really aggravates me is their change that stops combat damage from using the stack.

All the cool things you could do with combat damage and things like Fallen Angel and Nantuko Husk, Mogg Fanatic and Seige-Gang Commander, etc, are entirely useless now. Why are they doing this? This is very frustrating.

Oooh! I just found this thread... It's been years since I played M:TG, Literally! I'm guessing three or four years, actually... Looks like lots of stuff has changed since then...

If anyone has the time someday, I'd love an introduction to the online game since I kind of lost interest when some idiot kid-of-my-neighboor stole my cards and left them out in the rain, effectively ruining 7-8 childhood years of gathering cards. I still haven't forgiven that moron. Meh, I'm moving down a tangent - as I said, if anyone has the time to introduce me to the online version of the game, I'd appreciate it...

(and @PALEMOON: Yes, those changes are without class!)

i would give him 7-8 years of crazy hell if he did that to me.

Anyways, my friend sold me the BFM for 10 dollars before the end of the year.

Two. I traded away my third.

Anyhows, my horrible deck from the draft got 1.5-2
I only tied because of overtime.
The field was this:

He had 4 2/2s out.

I had a 7/7 with reach and deathtouch, an 0/7 (wall of ice) and a 5/7 with vigilance.

I had 4 life.
He had 2.

Sucks.

EDIT: His deck only had 4 cards in it too, and I had howling mine out.

Did you hear that they already released the 2010 core set? I don't exactly like this because they just barely released the Alara reborn set and have given no one time to adjust to it.

Also, the fact that it's not yet 2010. O_o

Did you know that most stores have already sold out their M10 inventories???
Did you know that Wizards of the Coast is already having to reprint the M10 set???
This core set is already the most popular ever... already.

I checked to pick up some booster packs yesterday, and found out that they were still sold out from the launch.

They're a decent set. Blizz, AF and I participated in the launch Swiss Sealed tourney on MTGO and did awful, but we got some sweet cards out of it.

Just a reminder to everyone that Zendikar is releasing in about 3 weeks. I'm looking forward to it in particular because it will have a substantial boost in power level compared to Alara, due to Lightning Bolt, Duress, Doom Blade etc. now being in Standard. Looks set to be good fun.

PLANECHASE makes magic feel too much like yugioh. "The plane is changed to Infernal..." vs "I play my field spell..."

I'm not sure why people feel the need to constantly compare Yu-Gi-Oh and M:TG. They are two CCGs, but comparing them is like comparing Life and Monopoly. Both are board games, both focus on becoming successful in the capitalistic sense and so are similar, but they're two completely different games.

Traps and Planechase are two fairly basic concepts for a game like M:TG to develop. I don't care if M:TG is like Yu-Gi-Oh or not, I care whether it's fun to play. Since it still is, I don't complain.

Not to mention that MTG already had global enchantments and especially world enchantments, which are very similar in concept.

I'm working on one... I (somehow) got a shoebox full of random cards and 2 decks stolen (at a tournament), so I only have one left. Working on a new deck right now.

I plan on going to the pre-release. I doubt I'll do well, but...meh.

As for decks, I have many...my favourite is most definitely my combo-mill:

Code: Select all

Land:
8x Swamp
8x Island
4x Dimir Aqueducts
4x Sunken Ruins

Creatures:
4x Painter's Servant
4x Cairn Wanderer
4x Avatar of Woe
2x Dimir Doppelganger
2x Szadek, Lord of Secrets
40

Non-creature Spells:
4x Grindstone
4x Glimpse the Unthinkable
4x Mind Funeral
2x Counterspell
2x Countersquall
2x Tome Scour
2x Psychic Drain
It works pretty well, but since it's only legal in Legacy and Vintage, it's only seen play against my friends in casual matches.
