comments: To begin, the rocket dodging in this is supreme. Like a burrito supreme from Taco Bell 15 years ago (because trying to stomach Taco Bell these days doesn't happen like it used to). I found it a bit lackluster in terms of looks but the tiles were scarce and complimentary to the gameplay. Replay value is almost perfect. This is one of those maps I could spend 20 minutes playing over and over again, even if I've already completed it 3 or 4 times.

In some ways I liked that but at times I felt that you could have blocked off that upper rocket from the mine section on the right, or had the floorguard stop a bit further away so that it was perilous to travel down there but not too difficult. The top could have used some work, like opening up the laser drone to that area.

I feel like in some cases the object set has a lot to do with the map but considering how many tile combinations you can come up with there were probably a lot of ways you could have made this more fun. The laser was great at the beginning and then become too overbearing near the end. Great job allowing the player to squeeze through that area at the end near the door so that one doesn't have to go all the way around.

so this had promise but it fell short. the section with the switch was boring without

There were about 3 or 4 things you could have done to make the gameplay less frustrating overall but they really brought down your score in that department. Good use of double chainguns. The map is also fun and easy to navigate but also
dangerous, making repeated plays very enjoyable. The tileset is great in the top
section, but the repeated use of the l shapes near the bottom is uninteresting and
could be something cooler, like the curvey curves at the top.

Awesome, awesome use of the objects here. The exit area was a clever use of a door
and the upper right had neat interactions. However, the map is long and not very
dynamic so you basically end up doing the same thing each time, hurting your replay
value. The tileset also exaggerates the wild placement of the objects and stuff,
making this map look dense and cluttered (and bad).

Lookin' pretty Guacamole here (good thing every surface isn't covered in mines and
gold with no other enemies). You lose gameplay points for stuffing the doors
and launchpads into those ever-popular honeycomb formations where they can't do
anything but look forlornly at the ninja passing by, knowing that they will never
have the warmth of a ninja's buff body passing through their inviting metal ingress.

+19 || 20pts = rv: i want to play this over a lot something about it is enjoyable
+4 || 10pts = ae: looks like generic popular map with rough spikey sides and arsty mine placement #453

+52 || 60 this is a way good score

SOUTHPAW REFUSES TO NAME HIS STUFF
+26 || 30pts = gp: like some kind of puzzly thing with the drone it was neat but sometimes was hard to navigate
+18 || 20pts = rv: the gameplay invites multiple playthroughs but is not mean about it
+3 || 10pts = ae: this is not exactly the most pretty thing ever

+47 || 60 this map was fun

ROMANIAC BLACK WOOL
+24 || 30pts = gp: good use of thwumps. I did not really appreciate the rockets being on my ass in awkward ways all the time though.
+9 || 20pts = rv: i really did not want to play this more than a couple times
+6 || 10pts = ae: so you turned it into a radium/mahimahi map.

+39 || 60 good, but could be improved.

ONESEVENNINE WHATEVER YOU DO DON'T WAIT FOR ME
+28 || 30pts = gp: drones worked nicely yo
+11 || 20pts = rv: replayable i guess. I think this score should be out of 10 and ae out of 20 because yeah but whatever
+6 || 10pts = ae: looks slightly terrible, with the exception of Mississipi

+45 || 60 you did a good job with what you got

BRAINSTONE KHALITORIAL
+27 || 30pts = gp: engaging, interesting, fun to navigate
+14 || 20pts = rv: the rocket placement kills me a lot so i have to retry a lot :C
+8 || 10pts = ae: cool looking and stuff

+49 || 60 very nice!

ERIK-PLAYER THE WIND
+23 || 30pts = gp: bewildering usage of the door floors and the empty tunnels were kinda cool
+10 || 20pts = rv: at first it looks really replayable and explorable but then you realize you only go one way every time
+9 || 10pts = it certainly looks windy

42 || 60 i didn't really like this

Southpaw

gameplay: 14/30
replay: 15/20
aesthetics: 4/10

While the mines and tiles created that was mostly inhibiting and not really any fun to move in,
the whole structure created some interesting possibilites in routes and in general was set up well.
Several parts looked good, especially the upper open section juxtaposed on the lower sectiom,
the image didn't otherwise come across as very striking.

PALEMOON

gameplay: 21/30
replay: 11/20
aesthetics: 3/10

It was quite a bit of fun to explore around the map, each little section had its own charm that
makes the entire map work. However, each section gets less interesting the more you must pass through it,
and while certain parts look good on thier own, as a whole it's hard to appreciate the look.

Prizes
1st - Receives 1 featured map of my favourite ReTile map of theirs.
2nd, 3rd, 4th - Permanent custom title on NUMA

---
This contest will run from Monday thru Saturday, leaving Sunday for last-minute scoring and PM'ing of maps

Rules & Procedures:
- Contestants must PM me FIVE (5) MAPS of their own from NUMA. (retile maps are not allowed. the object set must have been partially made by you.)
- I will remove all the tiles from the map, leaving only objects. DO NOT REMOVE THE TILES YOURSELF.
- From there contestants will be given the objects of another participant's map. Here is where the fun begins.
- Contestants must then place an entirely brand new tileset upon the map, thus altering the original gameplay and aesthetics.
There are 3 rules to retiling:
  • You may not add, move or delete any objects
  • You may not change any objects (ie, no changing drone paths or adding Nreality code)
  • You may not "remove" objects by covering them up with tiles
- When a contestant feels their retiled map is finished they must post it in this thread by Saturday, 11:59:59pm Pacific Standard Time (-8 GMT). Anybody who does not submit their map on time will be eliminated from the contest. Posting to NUMA or using BBCode in a post will both be acceptable.
- This challenge will last 5 weeks. The first 4 weeks everyone will be pitted against each other. At the beginning of the 5th week only the top 4 will continue.
- Please tag all of your maps "retile".
-You may cover up objects HALFWAY with a tile.

Etiquette:
For purposes of etiquette and curiosity, I will give you the map number of the map you retiled, so that you can add a link in your description of the map and so that you can see how different your tileset and gameplay is from the original.

Arbiters
Arbiter is just a fancy name for judge. There will be 3 Arbiters +1 (the extra is so that Arbiters may participate as well) at my discretion, so do not post asking to be an Arbiter.

The following are Arbiters
  • southpawPOWPOW
  • PALEMOON
  • flag
  • +1 :

Scoring:
Scoring will be cumulative, meaning that however many points you earn for each week will be added to your score from each previous week.
Each judges score will be added together, so there are 180pts possible for each week.
Eliminations will happen, but it is possible to avoid elimination. If you score within at least 70% of the person with the highest cumulative score you continue on.
The final round is a free-for-all. All points previously accrued for the top 4 contestants will be wiped and whoever scores the highest for that round wins.

The Arbiters will score as follows:
+ 30pts = gameplay
+ 20pts = replay value (replayability)
+ 10pts = aesthetics

I'd rather be a judge than a contestant, but you were all "don't post asking to be a judge" and on #moa you're all "POWPOW" so I'm just gonna air my feelings for a little here.

PALEMOON and flag, to be an arbiter requires lots of discipline every Sunday to get your judging done. Don't worry though, the first and second week are the most demanding and after that we go until we only have 4 people left.

Anyway, I approve of you two being arbiters.

Erik-Player, I signed you up. :D

I'm going to need maps from everyone who has signed up so far before we can start this thing. I'll send out a PM on Friday to all the contestants who have not given me their maps. If you have not messaged me your maps by Sunday you will not be participating.

sorry for the delay, I've had some things to attend to IRL for the last couple days and have not had much time to get things situated for this contest. There is a lot of preparation I was hoping to get finished with on Sunday and, as I said, things came up and I wasn't able to get this contest figured out. A lot of the preparation has had to wait for everyone to sign up, also, so yeah.

Anyway, enough excuses, I'll get PM's sent out today and you will have until Saturday at Midnight to get your maps in. Remember to post them in this thread. DO NOT PM YOUR MAPS TO ME.

I guess he means not to pm the edited/finished/retiled maps, but post them in this thread.

However it's already Wednesday and only half of the week is a bit short to work out a tileset, which harmonises with the objects.
Maybe give us a whole week starting with the day when you will have sent the "tileless" maps to all participants?

Honestly, it shouldn't take you more than 12 hours of time to come up with a tileset for a retile. My apologies for starting the week incredibly and horribly late, but if you're spending 12 hours entirely on one retile you're trying too hard. Sometimes the best retiles are horribly copy/pasted shapes and other times they are beautiful creations of things.

As for PM'ing your maps, that goes for the final product, the ReTile which you will be submitting to NUMA.

PM's are going out soon. Remember to read the rules and stay updated. A single mistake can get you eliminated.
