I recently had the idea of sending many different people the same unfinished map and seeing how different each final map would be. I made some tiles and thought I'd send them around to mappers with a known and unique style.

I intentionally made the tiles a bit on the bland side so that each mapper had room to make it their own, whilst also being able to make the initial tiles apparent.

Attached is the userdata, which contains different takes on the same tileset from:

astheoceanblue
blackson
gloomp
Losttortuga
Pheidippides
Radiumfalcon
Riobe
Skypanda
& toasters

The original tiles are included as well. I hope everyone enjoys the maps and the different styles. I had fun compiling it and hope to do this again with more interest next time!

Enjoyed Riobe's and Pheidi's the most, I think.

Good maps with posted AGDs

Pheidi's was the most organic, so the best use of the pattern. I thought it could cheat it, but he fooled me. The upper oneways looked bad and weren't necessary though.

Blackson's was decent, but kinda bland. I felt more 5-tile lines were needed.

And gloomp's was...welll...a piece of shit, but that's okay. It was still somewhat fun, but looked thrown together from old smelly garbage. AGD-1.

Bad maps don't deserve AGDs.
  • astheoceansblue's was too convoluted and lengthy, and had too much going on.
  • Losttortuga's was a minejumper, which I don't particularly like, but looked good.
  • Radiumfalcon's had doubled-objects for some reason, and that really didn't work at all with the objects he used.
  • I had high hopes for Riobe's, but the rockets really killed the gameplay.
  • SkyPanda used thwumps, and they didn't do much besides piss me off.
  • toaster's 'yeeaah' made me laugh, but all the enemies overwhelmed the cramped parts of the map. Very nice c-snapped gold though.
So, 3/9 isn't too bad, considering how varied the maps ended up. I still think this was a great idea, and I might make a map off the tileset.

Nice idea guys. I'd like to be in on a similar thing sometime.

Well, aren't you a fucking oxymoron?

PS, the answer is yes. Yes you are.

[15:10:55] <Yanni> gloomp, you are an oxymoron.
[15:11:12] <gloomp> Do tell.
[15:11:26] <Yanni> I don't know. I'm trying to understand this Life247 post.
[15:11:45] <Yanni> I'm assuming there's some context I'm missing, other than your original eclectic comment.
[15:11:52] <gloomp> Haha, did he post? I have been riding him pretty hard about his eclecticism lately.
...
[15:14:28] <gloomp> His post doesn't make any sense to me either, Yanni.

Really nice mapping idea. You ought to do some more of these. As for this pack, Pheidi's and Skypanda's are my favorites.

[11:36:31] <Life247> Bagels.

Yep, that's right. I just said Bagels. Bitch.
Clicky.

Sorry I've been such an asshole to gloomp. I just dislike him dicking around with me. I mean, it's not funny anymore, and I don't think I can defend myself any longer. So I'm kindly asking him to stop. Please drop the subject gloomp. Also, I don't know why I put this in a spoiler. I like doing things like that apparently. Oh, and I made up that quote. Like I said, I'm running out of options. And according to this, I am eclectic, but just barely.

Bagels.
