Okay, here's my workstation. Yes, I do virtually all of my work from the couch. Click for bigger and better quality.
Image

From left to right:
  • My bag and various newspapers and magazines (reference material for Extemporaneous Speaking, which I compete in).
  • my TI-84+SE
  • the external hard drive I keep all my photos on
  • my Korg NanoKEY (yes, it's a tiny musical keyboard)
  • my computer, a Dell Inspiron 1525
  • my ADS Tech USB video capture thing, which I always have with me for some reason.
  • my Crap Logitech headset, which is made of crap. If you look closely, you'll see that the connector has been cut off of the microphone cable - the connector was bad, and I haven't gotten around to attaching a new one, because my laptop has bezel mics.
  • my iRiver H10 20GB (old, but still works great with Rockbox Linux. I have a Slacker Portable shipping to me right now, though).
  • sheet music for Mad World by Gary Jules (always an essential part of my rig)
  • Bible (King James Version, LDS Annotated)/Book of Mormon/Doctrine and Covenants/Pearl of Great Price - vital reference material for bible battles.
  • Remotes for TV and stereo (I hook my laptop up to both)
  • Junk mail from colleges
Across from the couch:
Image
  • Side speakers - Paradigm independent-channeled bass/mid/high towers
  • Center speaker (near floor, just above DVR) - Paradigm theater center
  • DVR (on floor under TV stand) - Generic Comcast-issued Motorola DVR, sitting on lego risers because it tends to run hot
  • Amp/reciever (on shelf below TV, on the left, black with display on) - Denon AVR-3803. Top of the line when we bought it, a touch aged now.
  • DVD player - Sony something or other with HD upconversion. On sale at Fred Meyer's, so we bought it. Not very impressive.
  • CD player - Marantz something or other single-disc with HDCD/SACD support and the whole nine yards. Very expensive, very fancy.
  • Television (on top): Toshiba Regza 42"
  • PS2 (on shelf with television on right) - Sony PS2.
  • More remotes (on top of left speaker tower): DVD player/DVR/CD player remotes.
  • Random CDs and DVDs (various places) - mostly classical pieces that we own. Notice the NetFlix envelope on top of the right channel. I'm organized like that.
  • Piano (on left) - 5' Young Chang baby grand.
  • Bear (on top of piano) - Big stuffed bear. It's been there forever.
  • Cable channels to rear speakers (in wall, near bottom of right speaker tower)
Not Pictured:
  • Two 10" subwoofers (one behind television, one in other corner of room. One 12" gets hard to control, but the room loses bass like crazy, so we have two 10" to get the power we need with good control)
  • Nikon D40 and accessories, which I nearly always have with me (I used it to take the pictures, so it's not in the pictures)
  • Old HP computer serving as file and experimentation server (in kitchen under table)
  • Various printers (an HP Photosmart and an OfficeJetDoesEverythingWhateverThing) which I use over the network
  • Lots of books/papers/random junk, which are mostly on the floor in my room.
I need to get a 15' HDMI cable, because right now I'm driving the TV with VGA, and it only accepts 1024*768 over VGA. My HDMI cable is only 6', though, so I have to sit right in front of the TV to drive it at full resolution.

So many wires... sorta defeats the purpose of the laptop if you're trapped under a web of wires, doesn't it?
I like being able to stand up at a moment's notice. You know you're in bad shape when getting away from or back to the keyboard (to get a snack or whatever) requires a ritual.

It can be really annoying. Basically, there's -
  • Laptop AC adapter
  • external HDD USB
  • NanoKEY USB
  • Audio to headphones and/or stereo
  • VGA to TV (should be HDMI eventually)
  • Video capture unit USB, and often composite to the TV's output (When I see commercials that I like I record them)
  • USB to the iRiver (only when it's battery is low or I'm putting more music on it, I only have to charge it about once a week. yay for Rockbox's crazy battery efficiency)
I tend to never move around the house, but I disconnect everything every morning since I carry my laptop with me during the day. then I reconnect things as I need them in the evening, which usually means everything is plugged in by the end of the day.

I don't have a camera handy at the moment, so here is an elaborate illustration instead:

Image

Compaq Presario PC
3 GB memory
320 GB hard drive
Vaio speakers
Gateway 2000 CRystalScan monitor
Butchered iPod Touch (1st gen, only one headphone side working)

NOT PICTURED: A ton of papers, books, wrappers, altoids, DVDs, wallets, pocket change staplers, pen holder, SimCity 4 Deluxe Edition case (hell yes), and the broken scanner sitting on the floor.

If I want to take the laptop anywhere, I rip out the power and mouse cords and leave them on the desk. Everyone else in my building has a similar setup, pretty much. I'd like to get a little box for, uh, distributed file transfer related activities, but I can't fit a tower so I haven't done much yet in that regard.
As soon as we wish to be happier, we are no longer happy.

First two are an overview of my desk:

Image

The circular silver thing with the black band is the rumble part of an xbox 360 controller.

Image

There's a slim PS2 under the dust cover and the thing with a blue cap is some deodorant my mum put there and I'm too lazy to move.

other random stuff:

Heavy Walker figure that came with my red faction game
Image

Rubber band gun

My game collection:

This pic is old compared the ones linked.

It says above it, it was a demonstrative rubber band gun for the community construction challenge, but hey no one entered (Apart from Evil_Bob who gave me a song for some reason so I guess he wins on default).

Now I just annoy my dog with it.

I ran out of money some time last year, So now I'm renting most titles that I most likely won't be playing for a long time or don't have multiplayer. So yeah I rented dead space and that game is all kinds of fucked up. fun though.
