EDIT: We no longer have the server, so I've edited the thread to fit with it's current direction/content. Feel free to edit back if we ever revive it.

Hope to see you guys hanging around there. We got quite a turnout going earlier. Future permutations of the server will have a different map rotation, SourceRadio, and some other goodies. Many thanks to Calcy for working on the server.

Right now, Dave and I are paying for it. But if you want to throw a bit of cash this way, PM me and we can Paypal.

<3.

Edit by Calcy: If you have a reserved slot on the server, and the server is full, you won't be able to connect through the server browser. Instead, open console and type "8.2.121.154:27015", and you should be able to connect.

Edit #2 by Calcy: As most of you know, the server is no more, so I removed the info from this post. :(

Holy eff, I was starting to work on a server too. :o

Well, this is just fantastic news though! So, does it have the default map rotation or map vote?

Well, bad news, my cool badass pc? It's busted. I was moving my PC to my bro's room, but as luck would have it, my damned power supply blew a fuse. So, I'm going to be replacing my PC with new parts and whatnot. At the moment I'm on my previous PC. Either way, I should be able to play, maybe not as much, but I'll be able to play.

Wait, were you moving your computer while it was plugged in?

I would be playing TF2 on this server, if only I had TF2.

As of now it's running all non-arena Valve maps (including the community ones). The server randomly chooses which map to go to next, but prevents a map from being picked if it's been one of the last four maps played. Of course, you can rtv to choose your own.

I'm thinking of getting rid of 2fort at the very least, and maybe adding some custom maps. Any suggestions?

quake3 style deathmatch map

control point 'white arctic'

beaver creek ctf map (halo)

dm sand
http://www.fpsbanana.com/maps/86822
ctf cargo ship type map
http://www.fpsbanana.com/maps/86718

just browse around and put maps on, test em, see which ones are a go or a no-go. also, we need to customize the sounds if you know how to. i have some sound packs from previous ups servers... i can lend a few sounds out ^_^

and you need a more customized server screen on load up. you should make a section JUST for tf2 and the metanet server on the forums here. list rules, codes of conduct, and perhaps make a meta clan.

if you want to make the server popular for a lot of ppl, it needs to get out of its bland "oh its just a random clone of 10,000 other crappy unpopulated servers". it needs to be unique, it needs to be metanet.

I think that the fewer non-map custom files, the better. That way, people don't have to download for an hour before joining the server.

I agree with the above, we should keep it to the default rotation.

Why is the custom map downloading so slowly? You guys were in Viking last night and I tried downloading the map, but it was taking ages. I didn't have much time so I just played on another server. :/

Oh, and this topic should be pinned for future reference.

Well, most servers host the map somewhere and link to the URL. Calcy just quickly put the map onto the ftp, which is effing slow to download. It's not on the regular rotation for now, but I suggest getting the map somewhere else until we get the URL up.

megaupload? or is there more to it then that. and i totally DON'T agree with JUST stock.... at least 5 custom maps. that viking thing is a keeper, it was pretty cool.

ya once calcy fixes the url, the download speed will be greatly increased... unless your from Kazakhstan.

Yeah, sorry about that guys. I only realized my mistake when Slappy and kai told me about it. I have custom files linked to TheRealN now.

Also, since there aren't many non-Metanetters using the server currently, I'm not going to mess with what we have right now for a while. So for right now it'll stay with all official maps (except 2Fort) on rotation, with Vikings accessible through a vote or through either Slappy or myself (as admins).

Also, blue_tetris, whenever you get a chance, tell me your Steam ID on IRC. I need it to give you some privileges on the server.

Hey guys, I'll be achievement farming for unlocks on the server at around 10 PM CST tomorrow (Thursday) with a few friends and other Metanet dudes. You're all welcome to join.

Except for AF. He hates being efficient.
