Does 2/6 Equal 1/3?

WHO TAUGHT YOU MATH?!?

1/3 does not equal 30%. Who is lazy enough to assume that is the case?
3/10 = 30%
1/3.33333333333333(3's forever)=30.%
1/3 = 0.33333333333333333(3's FOREVER)

That is no excuse for improper division.

Anyone who is anybody knows that 1/3 is 33.33333...% not 30%.... You were a complete 3.3333...% off.

MEH!

And once again, 1/3 does equal 2/6 mathematically.

I can kind of see how 2/6 might equal 1/3. But what about three ninths? Four twelfths? Seventy-eight two-hundred-thirty-fourths? It all just seems too farfetched.

The most obvious explanation, naturally, is conspiracy.

I'm going to opt for the Suki method of solving this problem.

Which fight do you figure is more fair: A fight of 1 against 3, or a fight of 2 against 6?

Clearly, 2 against 6 is fairer. A person alone can't size up a group of opponents as well as a couple; and three people act in concert well, while six people just tend to get in each other's way and one or two would have to sit out while the first few are getting fought off.

More like a fight between 1/3 of the population versus 2/6 of the population.
I'd call that a fair fight. Yeah, they're equal.
(Well, unless one of those groups was non-human, cuz a group composed of 1/3 of every human can kick the shit out of 1/3 of the mosquito population, by virtue of being the species I happened to be born as.)

What's great is that Kablizzy, who started this thread, has only posted in it, what, once or twice? Note that he hasn't given any real explanation or reason to his argument.

I guess he's playing with words in that 1/3 is NOT 2/6, much like cheese is not butter or something is not something else.

Or perhaps he's seeing who will agree with him to test a lemming theory.

Or maybe he wants to see how deep* people will actually go over this whole entire stupid thread.

END.

Woo, Ive just proved 1/3 isnt the same as 2/6. If you have 2 pies, and divide them into 6 equal sections, you have 6 slices. If you have 1 pie and divide into 3 equal sections, you have 3 slices, not 6 slices. So its really not the same, at least in this circumstance.

whilst the proposed value of 2/6 equals the proposed value of 1/3, they are not the same.

2/6 can't fit into 3/9.

Therefore I am right and they are not equal.

umm what?

IF YOU HAVE TWO PIES AND TAKE 6 PIECES, YOUR PIECES WILL BE THE SAME SIZE AS THE 1/3 PIE

2/6 = 9/O.o

If you think of it as backwards ratios, i.e. If I have one banana, Kablizzy has three bananas, then clearly they are not equal. And Kablizzy never earned his six bananas in the first place. I'd like them back, please.

1 out of 3 people vote for McCain.
2 out of 6 people vote for McCain.

By the way, should 3/3 equal .99999...?

I think 1/3 will vote for McCain, 2/6 will vote for Obama, and the vast majority (3/9) will simply not vote.

It's elk mating season, by the way.

1 out 3 elks is male.
2 out of 6 elks while find their mate within this month.
4 out of 12 elks* will be eaten by the 'Blizz.

What percent of the elk population remains.

*Assume no elks are born within Kablizzy's feasting period.

As for my own lines:

1/3 and 2/6 aren't equal. Let me show you.

1/3 = 1/3. Duh.

2/6= 1/3 * 2/2. Duh.

x/3x = 1/3 * x/x. Duh.
