To start off, I'll talk about this Autistic person at my school. He's really smart, yet he doesn't fit in, he has this "chaperone" follow him everywhere everyday, helping him with stuff he doesn't want to do, and he cries a lot. Some of my friends have started trying to push him to cry and, whenever this happens, I get the urge to laugh at him(the Autistic kid). Should I feel bad about this? Is this natural? I just need someone mature than the average 7th grader to be able to give their opinion to me.

I think it's dumb to laugh at them. There's an autistic guy at our school, and when a lot of the guys were making fun of him, I pretty much told them 'that's not cool, guys.'
But it's all part of society. They started making fun of me after I said that.

Yes. Definitely yes. No one likes to be ridiculed, and i'm guessing this autistic kid is no exception (you know, considering he cries when you do it). The fact that he is different - through no fault of his own - in no way makes it okay to isolate and persecute him. You should be trying to help him fit in, and most of all, discouraging your friends from antagonising him.

I can't stand people who laugh at people simply because they're different. I think it's absolutely ridiculous and I'm surprised why anyone would do it.

So not only are people who dress in colourful clothing 'gay', but mental illness is a free card to ridicule?

I don't think it's natural for humans to laugh at someone because they're different; we laugh at people because they do strange things, and autistics are just one group who have a tendency to do strange things consistently.

From what I understood you said, you feel like laughing at him, but you don't. I don't think you should feel has bad as atob and others, because you can control that urge you have.

I've already passed through situations like those (an urge to laugh at things that are not to be laughed of), and I've lost control one time. I felt horrible I felt like I was doing it to myself, and I now understand what it is to be joked.

But if you control it, I don't think it's that bad.

While it's perfectly natural to laugh at strange things, letting anyone, especially your friends, bully someone while you stand back and debate whether to laugh or not is not cool.

If it's your friends that's doing the pushing, go ahead and tell them to cut it out because it most definitely is the stupidest thing, ever.

You're lucky in that you could say it in a corny tone and all and it would still fit in with what seems to be the atmosphere at your school.

I agree with Yanni but I feel like I should add that, if you're going to grow a pair and stick up for the Autistic kid, you should probably wear your brightest, most colourful jacket and tightest pants. You know, so that your friends still think you're part of their group.

Part 1 of Surprising Survey: Do people think I fit in here, as a member of the community? If the answer's yes I really don't see the problem. Your school just seems to be an odd environment to work in, as Spawn_Of_Yanni said.

One of my friends is autistic, and she gets on fine. The only stick she gets is for her whopping-great-ponytail. Everyone I know likes here, or at least doesnt make a funny look when she walks in the room, so again, I think you've just got a special case on your hands.

I am of the opinion that you knew the answer to this question before you asked it.

this si a hard case, but i know how you feel, my sisters' boyfriends brother is autistic, and hes in my one of my classes, obviously, (or not) they ridicule him, and everyone laughs, except me, but sometimes, because laughing is contagious, i laugh as well, but i dont feel TOO bad about it, although i do feel remorse.

so my point is, it doesnt matter wether or not you laugh at him, as long as their YOUR morals, your fine. just dont be immature about it and grow a pair. (unless your a girl 0.0)

That doesn't make sense. Just because someone sticks to their morals doesn't make them right.

BUT THATS THE POINT, for example, it is wrong in most peoples eyes to steal, but say a starving man with children steals a loaf of bread, (no sacreligious implementations) it is right in his eyes, so its ok. if you fail to understand the purpose of morals then you dont seem to have any.

but morals is a hard topic to handle, as everyone has different morals, but thats a completely different kettle of fish

no, you should not laugh. you should stp your friends from making him cry. i had an autistic kid as a friend for several years, and still my friends annoy me about it. just dont bother him, or do whatever, to stop that. also: try to talk to your friends. 'suggest' to your health/pe teacher in a note in her school mailbox (or something) to have your pe/health class do a study on autism/social disorders. find out why he cries.
then, try a joke, be his friend. if youre his friend, when people do stuff or you do he *might* not cry and will be thinking its a joke. remeber autism is only a social disorder, and he may not respond to anything much else.
there are hundreds of solutions o your problem.



btw, im an above-average seventh grader.

anyone care to explain, for those who dont know, what autism is?
