he wants royalties for his telescreen patent.
Why weren't we informed of this, oh, I don't know,
before they implemented it? I'm not okay with it at all.

Aw, man! No more Victoria's Secret ads for me. Big Brother is finally having an effect on my life.

A private entity being able to see my face in public? I'm all against this.

That would eventually be pretty boring. Targeting the viewers with specific ads.
It's taking out variety in advertisements, and if you're there alone, you'll end up getting a play list of ads for yourself.

I don't understand what you're concerned about. Are you not already walking around the mall? If you don't want people (or computers) to see your face, I might suggest a balaclava.

I don't mind people being able to see my face. I'd just like an equal exchange of face-seeing. People who want to see me without me being able to see them clearly have some sort of ulterior motive in mind.
Moreover, it seems that these will be active not only in malls (on private property where the owners are perfectly within their rights to monitor people) but also outside.

It's bad enough that I don't have 360 degrees of eyes around my head to make sure I see in every direction that could possibly see me. Imagine if these guys who are looking at me without my knowledge are planning evil, like advertising their CORPORATE brands to me with their CORPORATE ADVERTISEMENTS. I MEAN COME ON. The next thing you know, they'll be advertising our women in their sleep and handing out candy from windowless vans, attempting to advertise to children on the playgrounds. All the while, looking at us. With eyes. Eyes that we aren't fully aware of, even.
*looks in the other window*
Oooh, a banner ad! Live women in <HUNTINGTON, WV 25702> looking for a hot date? That's an odd coincidence.

Can I at least see the guys on the other side of the screen?

I thought it was automated. :/ or was that a joke.
I pretty much agree with demonz. I'm happy for a computer to roughly estimate my gender with 80-90% accuracy while i'm walking through a shopping centre. I don't think i'd be comfortable with much more than that, though.
Plus, do these guys realise that this is an invitation for feminist and racial whining and so on?
"hey, I walked past this advertisement and it changed to an ad for a cleaning product! That's so sexist!"

What happens if a gay guy walks by and an advertisement pops up trying to sell Playboy? I am going to write angry letters to the company designing these things until they make advertisements that can specifically read my mind to see who I really am. What am I going to do if I don't even know my sexuality? How will I know which product to buy if they can't specifically advertise to me? Victoria's Secret or Jersey Joe's Jerseys!?!?

In Soviet Russia, TV watches you!
I don't really see anything too wrong with this. I mean, if you don't want to be seen by people, why are you in public? Never mind all the other people walkign around you in the mall, THE TV SEES ME! Nice way to implement a security camera too, heh.

there's a flaw to this smart advertising: what if someone is a transvestite? Who is interested in things the opposite sex it interested in.
