People are pathetic

These people think they are vampires. Quotes from the actual site:

"I am 13 and I'm pretty sure I'm awakening. This kinda sucks at my age because it's summer. Long days, hot sun, it sucks! Well, what really sucks about it is that the only way I could get blood would be to cut myself which I'm not too keen on doing."

"I've read alot of the problems on this site, but I'm disheartened to not see someone like me. Most of my problems stem from the fact that I seem to be a hybrid. I suffer under the sun, and burn very badly, and am paler then the normal"

Gee, maybe you just have a pale complexion and happen to burn easily! What is it with people "believing" they are vampires? Someone needs to stay away from the Twilight books....

and I start to vamp out and get very predatorial, which has led to me acting very strangely (i.e. growling at classmates when they speak to me).
Bahahahaha

I can't tell if these people are for real or just doing it for attention.

At my most misanthropic, I feel like starting sites like these, gathering all information I can about the people who post, and then going door-to-door dispensing my special brand of wisdom via a two-by-four to the skull.

At least I've never met a vampire who desired to urinate on himself.

I am thinking my main problem is coming from a religious family and being naturally evil. (Some of you may not be evil, but I am and enjoying it. After all, the word "evil" is only "live" backwards. Being a satanist, goth and witch probably doesn't help my goodness.)

now this is the sort of thing that causes me to froth at the mouth uncontrollably, and on top of it all i scroll down and see that there's 26 pages.

Yeah, Slappy. Women can be bloodsucking horrors from beyond the grave, too. Way to be a misogynistic douchebag.

Anyway, there's a whole bunch of people like this, including ones who think they're werewolves, faeries, etc. They're known collectively as Otherkin. Strangely, if you Google "Otherkin", about the fourth page down says that it is for "...Otherkin, including Vampires, Vampyres, Demons, Dragons...". As far as I was aware, the only difference between a vampire and a vampyre is that one is dyslexic, but since they list both, presumably there is some difference in the subculture. Perhaps a "vampyre" is what you get after the mob puts a torch to your opera cloak...

EDIT: Also this seems like a good explanation of why these people believe what they do.

And it goes beyond that, too! There are people who think they actually have mutant abilities, that they can read minds, and that digimon actually exist.

one of the scariest things about that is that there are so many people out there that think that. people are indeed pathetic.

Wow. This is the most pathetic shit I've ever heard of. How old are these people supposed to be? If they're older than 8 years old, then something is wrong. You're supposed to stop pretending you're monsters and shit by that age. Excluding Halloween. If it were before the Twilight series was published, these people wouldn't be pretending/thinking that they're vampires. Since half of today's youth reads those books, and half of those people are so obsessed with them that they want to think that they're different than the other people who read the books, they go around saying that they're vampires. I mean, half of today's youth doesn't read those books, and from what I've seen, they think that the other half is a bit stupider for reading the books. These vampires want to be different, so what better way to not seem stupid than go around saying you're a vampire? I'n glad I don't see these people where I live. They probably don't do that down here because people would know that they're faking it, since Florida is so sunny. Everyone here should carry around a crucifix, a wooden cross, some holy water, a Bible, a copy of the oldest horror book you can find with vampires in it, and the strongest moderately-sized flashlight you can find. So if you ever have the pleasure of meeting one of these douchebags, you can try to destroy them in any way possible.

Hey, stop that. You'll make Blizz feel bad about his Vampire: The Masquerade campaign. Then, of course, there's all those D&D campaigns...

There were Otherkin long before there was Twilight. Hell, people were romanticising vampires before you were born. I own a book which satirizes the "vampyre" thing, and it was published in 1998, seven years before Twilight even existed.

Yeah, let's show them how stupid it is to pretend they're vampires by... playing along and pretending they're vampires?

We all know you just wanna live out your little vampire hunter fantasy.

I really feel sorry for them. People who act like this are generally a bit neglected (in whatever sense), and need something to fill the gap in their lives. Am I the only one who instinctively feels pity, not scorn?

You guys are crazy.

People are just having some fun. I'm going to dress up for the Star Trek movie when it comes out. I'm going to pretend to honestly believe that I am a starship captain trapped on some strange world. And sure, this isn't exactly the manliest thing I'll have ever done. But nobody is going to attack me in some forum for it. These people are just expressing themselves. It's hilarious to me that the same forward-thinking crowd that fights so hard to make sure everybody has the right to do something as arbitrary as marry another human being also fights to make these people feel horrible for exercising their free will. Maybe Stephanie Meyer won't be burned at the stake because she's a witch, because that's way 17th century, but let's metaphorically burn her at the stake for writing a book that makes people happy.

All I'm saying is, don't feel pity or anger at these people. They are like this because they want to be, and because they have the freedom to be.

I reserve the right to mock anyone for anything. Like, DLB said, I don't think it should be against the law but I'll be damned if I'm not going to make fun of their foibles.

A friend of mine likes to V-LARP (or however that's written). It's a Live-Action Role-Playing game where everyone basically acts like vampires and plays the vampire politics game. I've never been a fan of LARPing, but she seems to enjoy it... and I'm 100% okay with that because (far as I know), she doesn't actually think she's a vampire.
One day when doing this in a town about an hour north of where I like, some baptist guy decided that they were actually vampires and tried to stake one of the players. He was arrested and is still in prison, and the guy who was staked needed over 100 stitches. (The stake hit a rib and slashed down his torso.)
Point being, I have even less respect for people who act violently toward a non-violent weirdo than the wierdos themselves.

I've never subscribed to this "they're just exercising their rights" viewpoint. I'm not liberal enough to stand back and watch children, or even adults, cut themselves, drink blood, rip through their own face with a chainsaw, etc. If two friends are about to leap into a fight, i'll hold them apart. If a guy stands in the middle of the street, brandishes a knife and declares that he's tired of life, i'll confiscate the knife and forcibly nudge him in the direction of the nearest mental health clinic.

That said, I don't think it should be against the law to read the bullshit posted on those sites, but I do think the problem of young children frequenting these sites needs to be looked into. It may be harmless fun for some people, but not for the thirteen year old contemplating cutting himself. Furthermore, some of these people sound like they need serious mental help.

"I live in constant pain at not having the energy I need."
I think the energy he needs is attention...

"We came here during the Norman Invasion of Ireland"
If I'm correct, it was the Norman Invasion of England, in 1063 at the Battle of Hastings, under William the Conquerer against Saxon Harold Godwinson.

"Email me, Lamia Mephistopheles Wraithinez at..."
What kind of name is that? No offense and all...

Are there laws against fighting? Yes. Are there laws against brandishing knives in public? Double-yes.

But face it, there aren't any laws against contemplating cutting yourself. It's not your job to be involved, and it certainly isn't your job to make these supposed cutters feel horrible about their lifestyle choices.

I'm not saying you don't reserve the right to, all I'm saying is these people aren't trying to provoke a reaction from you, but you're definitely giving them one.

What is there to debate about this subject? The majority of you people think that some folk are pathetic for something they do. And nobody here pretends to be a vampire regularly. I think this belongs in the, "Hey, I hate that Twilight got more box-office than that shitty Batman sequel" forum more than Debate.
