What do you think, dogs? I strongly disagree with the decision.

You sort of have to take into consideration that he would have been nominated about two weeks into his presidency. What exactly would he have accomplished at that point? Or at this point, for that matter.

BECAUSE He's Barack Obama and he's come to save the day

Nothing yet, actually.

As long as enough people believe he is an omniscient god sent down to live among us, he is doing some good. Confidence in the government and economy will do America good. If he inspires that confidence then im all for him.

What a ridiculous decision. Next year I bet it goes to Kim Jong Il.

I'm going to go ahead and say that this is absurdly wrong.

Blind faith in and/or extreme reverence for the government leads to horrible abuses of power 99% of the time.
I said if he inspired confidence not blind faith. Confidence in the government and economy is a good thing 99% of the time.

Wow. When I read the OP, I thought you were bandying about your opinion, Slappy; I hadn't heard the news.

....

Jesus Christ. What exactly has he done to help the cause of world peace? Especially if, as bluenin said, he was nominated just weeks after the election. A ridiculous decision, based, surely, more on politics than on real contributions. Excuse my ignorance of past Nobel Prize winners, but is this a disturbing precedent being set by the committee or something they've been doing for years?

He was nominated in February. Just 2 weeks after taking office.

I'm calling shenanigans. Either Joe Biden is on the Swedish Nobel Peace Prize Committee or this is a sick joke.

Worse than Al Gore.

Watch them all say "October Fools" tomorow. Please. Let. It. Be. A. Joke.

As said on the newscast by someone being interviewed:

"There are PLENTY of other people who are doing great things out there right now, and WHAT has Barack done? He was nominated 2 weeks into presidency, and he hasn't done anything significant to help the world advance in any way. Look at Mother Teresa and Gandhi, and all the people like them out there. Do they have Nobel Peace Prizes? No. Do they deserve them? Yes."

"The nobel committee has said he was nominated for 'promoting world exchange (or whatever the hell it was)'"

To Al Gore's defense, he actually /did/ something.

The only notable thing that Obama has achieved so far is being the first African American President.

That makes two news stories I've heard today from friends that made me think they were totally joking, but ended up being completely true.
The first I heard was that Obama won the Nobel Peace Prize.
The second was that NASA fucking bombed the fucking moon.

Meh. I'm not as opposed as you wackos think we should be.

Other Presidents have earned a similar distinction. Putting it into the perspective of modern concerns makes it seem less wacky that that he's warranted the award.

It's really more of a gesture of support than anything. I don't agree much with Obama and his policies, nor do I completely agree with the Prize, but I think the reactions people are giving are completely overblown.
