What do you think is the most controversial issue worldwide?

There's a lot of problems going on out there in the world. Significantly global warming, the war in Afghanistan, and terrorism to name but a few. So what do you think is the biggest problem out there in the world today?
Post your ideas, give your reasons.

Global Warming. I don't give a shit about bullshit ethics. Our pollution is -literally- killing our planet, and people are so afraid of progress that even so-called progressive presidents like Barack Obama skirt the issue at summits that are design to deal with this issue head-on. It's really sad that we're worried about who gets to marry whom when our planet is dying.

I agree with Slappy simply because if we can solve global warming, we'll have a little extra time to deal with all the other shit.

When looking at the progress of population of earth and consumption, I believe that in the next two decades we will see that natural (and all kind of resources) will be conspicuously and slowly begin to disappear, and the -the- most valuable raw material on earth will be water, grain (rice, corn, etc.) and all the other stuff. The only reason to this is we're just too lazy to move our big asses and do some shit to help preventing this planet literally becoming a dump.
Other than that, I agree with Slappy, if we can -somehow- find a way to solve this global problem, I'm sure we will have time caring about the other -more important- shit.
Note: Sorry about the so opprobrious and/or sardonic and/or mocking and/or cynical and/or dyspeptic post. I'm just one of those people who care a lot about these stuff but do nothing. Oh, wait, that's the main problem with everyone.

You know that some

Rhekatou, that's not at all what the documents showed, and it's a pity that people are interpreting it as though it were.
More to the point, Islam, in all it's flavors. It's turning the traditionally accepting Dutch and Swiss [for example] into angry racists [
some argue] in Europe, and it's a public face or scapegoat for those who have something to gain by destabilizing the Middle East. It's not the most difficult issue, but it's the most ethically troubling one I can think of.

The top. But my friends is sending me the .zip soon.
And now you're gonna whine: "But that's not all there is too it."
And I won't care.

Being purposefully ignorant and small-minded is very...egregious. Are you going to look up that word, or just shout "I KNOW, I'M AWESOME" and toddle away, satisfied with yourself?

Are you all joking? It's gotta be religious extremism. It encompasses most problems related to political instability and is openly hostile to progress. It counts among its number all of the morons who speak against environmental improvements because they believe the apocalypse is nigh or that the planet is given to us from on high to do with what we will, and all of the martyrs and murderers who believe they are given divine instructions to kill others for plots of land or simply for disagreeing with them (or start
martyr academies in Pakistan for children for the same purpose). Every inch that it's anchored scientific progress has also served to delay our awareness of climate as a serious problem to be addressed. It fucks us over constantly and in most every area of our lives.

I know what that means. I KNOW, I'M AWESOME. AND SATISFIED WITH MYSELF. Egregrious can also mean 'outstanding'. And it's not being small-minded. I already did not believe in global warming
before the emails and documents were released. That just made me believe in myself even more.
We could argue about both topics all week, getting nowhere, because neither of us has sufficient proof to prove the other wrong.

OT: Most controversial? Abortion or global warming, depending on where you are. The one that I'm most worried about? Food shortages, especially when we find a way to turn soy into heroin.

Hang, on, Rhekatou. You're saying that global warming is a lie? How can you possibly say that global warming is a lie? Look at what's going on to stop it. All the discussions about it, what's going on to help it. What about all the wind turbines and solar panels. 'Reduce your carbon footsteps'? I'm not a science geek but I'd say global warming is a pretty big issue right now.

Honestly, I've read the same thing in a couple history textbooks (that global warming is a lie).

but seriously, global warming is a small fly compared to a hive of angry bees in the most controversial issue. The whole pointless war in the middle east is the largest... and I'm not talking only about the US involvement. The fighting and wars throughout history show that tensions there will never cease.
also... global warming is happening, its the natural time of the earths weather cycle for it to happen. the debates are about rather or not humans are a contributer in making it worse or having no effect upon it.

Once again, the issue that may determine whether we have an inhabitable planet in 100 years is a little bigger than any non-nuclear war could ever be.

Actually, you could really just broaden this to "the ability of people to be unreasonable, at least as regards topics of importance." But yes, religion has a very strong hand in that. But also, I think the religions of the world are inching towards more extreme stances. The modern world effectively diminishes the felt distance between everyone, so that different religions end up rubbing against each other more often, and it seems like the reactions are getting a tad stronger on the whole. Not to mention that logic and science are revealing more and more to be false about various religious beliefs, like the origins of the universe, the origins of Homo sapiens, the genetic component of homosexuality, and, as you mentioned, the realities of our planet's response to our behaviors.
Accordingly, I look forward to the rest of this century with some unease.
