While that may be stupid, I know some smart people who don't believe in evolution either. I don't let a politician's religious beliefs affect my opinion of him, as that's no better than the Christians who refuse to vote for any non-Christian.

No, believing in the Christian god and believing in evolution are not the same. The latter has proof, the former does not.

Not all Christians believe in New Earth crap. I was a theistic evolutionist for a while before becoming agnostic. Just saying.

There are two examples that come to mind. One study examined length of beaks, and evolution to fit the seed they wanted (because of scarcity of seed etc.) the other one had to do with the domestication of foxes. Those provide pretty strong evidence that evolution is true.
True there is no direct proof (one cannot live for millions of years studying the change from apes to humans) but at least it has some indirect evidence in the fossil record.

I know, but there are some people who hold the same skepticism toward modern science that you and I do toward God and point to stuff that was considered common knowledge back in the old days, such as that the Earth was flat and the center of the universe. I think they're horribly wrong, but it's not like they're arguing that the sky is purple.

As far as the post, yeah, I think more people should learn about this. I think the modern casual use of the word "theory" makes the average person give real theories less importance and credibility than they're due.

I'd vote for Jim Webb. I am definitely hoping, however unlikely, that Obama loses the primaries in 2012 and we get a more interesting Democrat candidate, preferably Webb, though it looks like he's retiring which frankly sucks.

Obama, I liked him when he said he'd close Guantanamo within the year and stopped liking him when he didn't do that.

The guy has a long track record of saying he's going to do something, and not doing it. Take his proclamation, upon entering office, that the detention center at Guantanamo would be closed within a year. It's still open. Take his statements back around 2004-2006 that we needed to decriminalize marijuana. It took two years of the same issue rising to the top of polls for the guy to even address it, and he brushed it off. Take his promise to fight for better healthcare -- except during the voting, I heard more from Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid than I did from Obama. Or the whole "let's talk diplomatically to Iran".

I'm not really surprised or disappointed by Obama; the guy ran on a moderate platform and governed as a moderate. His position on education frankly scares me but he won't have time to implement any of that crazy shit so I'm not really concerned about it.
