I bought a 40gb ps3 a while ago, i thought 40gb would be enough, i was wrong =/.
The space was quickly used up, now for Christmas i plan to get a 500gb external hard drive, back up my stuff onto the external hard drive, take the hard drive out of the external hard drive and swap it with my ps3 hard drive. Ive been on quite a few sites and theres alot of guides/stuff which means it IS possible, unfortunately im not very good with this kind of stuff and if i stuff up something....yeah the warrantee will break or something. Also just today a friend said that external hard drives dont work as internal ones, i dont know who to believe! Can anyone help?

From what little I know about computers, a hard drive can work as either internal or external as you as you have the right connections. If you wanted to change hard drives with your PS3, you'd have to make sure the size of the hard drives are the same, and that the PS3 connections will work. That said, you will void your warranty if you do so, so it's best to get someone who knows what to do.

2 things.

1) George means the physical size of the drive not the data size.

2) 40GB PS3s suck. *<3s his 60GB original* that said there are very few good games out right now.
