'Quadradius' is an internet game that is fairly popular amongst the Metanet community. I've decided to make a second Quadradius tournament (and hopefully more, thus, I coined as Annual). This fell through last year after a few rounds due to lack of interest towards the latter part of the tournament, so hopefully people are more willing to stay the whole time this go around.

- Rules -

The type of game can be any style (small/small, regular, etc.) as long as both agree before hand (other than the final game). The regular board is used if both players can't agree on another one.

The winner of a match up is the overall winner of a set of games. The first round, there will be 3 games in a set. In the second round, there will be 5 games in a set. The third round will also have 5 games in a set. The final match up will be a 7 game set on a regular board. Each set must be completed in a week. If one player isn't active over that week, then their opponent wins by default. If you're not able to commit a small amount of time each week to this tournament, understand you won't make it far.

There is room for 16 players to make a 4 round bracket. If more than 16 people sign up, the first 16 will be taken with no exceptions.

Once 16 people sign up, I'll make a randomly generated bracket.

Sign up list:

Blackson
LittleViking
Kablizzy
Remaniac
Inspired
kkstrong
Maestro
SlappyMcGee
Fawk
toasters
Tanner
rocket_thumped
bobaga_fett
Snuggletummy
Skyline
Luminaflare

The final round starts Thursday, September 2. The round ends Thursday, September 9.

Bracket credit goes to maestro (thanks btw)

The final round will be decided by a 7 game set.

I'm signing up, although I believe that you never finished the first annual Quad tournament.

It probably wasn't finished because of me. I seemed to have been cursed by tournaments and contests... no but really... I seem to have been around lately... but only during the day on weekdays. I don't think I'm taking that chance to blow up someone's chances of victory again.

I'm in in the hope that this one actually finishes. My only concern that sometimes it isn't matter of one partner not being active but that the partners aren't active at the same time. In that case, how would you proceed?

I'm not sure. Maybe after the week is over and neither player reports results randomly advance one?

Regardless, are you willing to participate?

My concern isn't that neither player reports in but that both report that they weren't able to make contact with the other. Random elimination would be entirely frustrating if you were doing well and then got the ax just because your opponent one week happens to live in Australia. That's really what killed the last tourney. I'll participate as a show of good faith but I really think that that issue needs to be addressed as soon as possible.

Okay. There's not much I can do unfortunately. Maybe PM at the beginning of the week and agree on what times when to play? The Achilles heel of the tournament is that you have to be on at the same time as someone else who may not abide by your schedule.

Frankly, there are members whose timeline I would never sync up with given my current sleep schedule. That requires others to move around me, which can be a problem. Although I'm awake a ton, so it probably won't affect the game. Posting available hours and leaving the responsibility of one of the two members to schedule the game with the other via PM would be most effective. Essentially, match leaders.

IRC seems to be the best way to initiate a game of Quad, but it requires both players to be present. I'm on IRC most of the time, but this will ultimately come down to the two players deciding upon a time (via pm?) when they will both be able to play.

If one more person doesn't sign up and make the perfect 16 within 3 more days I'm going to randomly select someone and give them a first round bye for the sake of getting this thing going. If I get myself, I'll just pick again.

Ooo. I didn't see this before I made the bracket. If you are willing to give up your spot LF, then go for it Spoon. Just play his game if he's alright with it.

I've come up with a thing to help coordinate schedules without the hassles of timezones:

http://www.maestrosync.com/timesync/

Basically you work out what times you're available and write them down in a format like this:

Code: Select all

+09:30
2010-08-02 18:00 > 2010-08-03 00:00
2010-08-03 12:00 > 2010-08-03 15:00
2010-08-04 12:00 > 2010-08-04 15:00
2010-08-04 22:00 > 2010-08-05 01:00
2010-08-05 13:00 > 2010-08-05 15:00
2010-08-05 22:00 > 2010-08-06 02:00
2010-08-06 13:00 > 2010-08-06 17:00
2010-08-07 13:00 > 2010-08-07 16:00
2010-08-07 21:00 > 2010-08-08 02:00
And then you feed it into the tool and it spits out some codes like this:

Code: Select all

1280737800 1280759400, 1280802600 1280813400, 1280889000 1280899800, 1280925000 1280935800, 1280979000 1280986200, 1281011400 1281025800, 1281065400 1281079800, 1281151800 1281162600, 1281180600 1281198600
And then your opponent does the same, and you take the two codes and put them in the machine and it tells you which of the times overlap (assuming it works okay, which it seems to but I offer no guarantee).
