This is a question about how to capitalise words in titles. I'm okay with either capitalising every word or just using normal sentence case—for headings, I much prefer the latter, but for titles, that can look kind of wanky since I'm not French. However. I am thoroughly against capitalising some words but not others. I see no good reason for it. Capitalising every word in the title makes sense because it's a proper noun. When you leave the prepositions and such as lowercase, you suggest they're not part of the title.

Sentence case is the only way to fly.

The second is the AP style we use in journalism, I believe, though it varies with the situation. Song titles need to be completely capitalized, though.

In French Canada, nothing is capitalized after the first word and proper names.
ex:
Harry Potter et le roche qui donne les choses qui est bonne pour societe et aussi Ron etais la.

I personally prefer the look of the second one, although which words to capitalise or not capitalise can get extremely confusing, so I can really settle for all three. I suppose it would depend on the artist's preference.

I hold that #2 is correct, but that #3 is most sensible.

Same here, but I prefer the second option when it comes to English.SlappyMcGee wrote:In French Canada, nothing is capitalized after the first word and proper names.

Okay, so guys who went for #2: how do you defend your position? I imagine it's just a matter of aesthetics, which I can appreciate as being the most important thing, but is there any other logical or semantic argument for that style?

None whatsoever.bok_choy wrote:is there any other logical or semantic argument for that style?
For some reason, some self-proclaimed authorities on the English language decided that some arbitrary words are less important than arbitrary others.
I just think it's true because that's the accepted standard. Although qualifications for being in a position to accept a standard for the use of a language is its own senseless subject.
