Should glitches be fixed?

In N1.5, should M&R fix glitches like walljumping through one ways, and the chaingun not being a cone of death (able to "dodge" bullets)? These weren't intended to be possible, but now the community has accepted them.
Should they be fixed?

no, we're to used to them. to be without them would be weird.
on the other hand, yes. 'fixing' them would limit us a little more, allowing us to create some cleaner, maybe differently stylized maps.
im wont voting.

I say fix them so we can play around with the fixed elements, but leave 1.4 so we have access to the old.
Then update NUMA to tag which version you're submitting so maps won't be broken.

Absolutely not! It would lose so many great elements of highscoring and innovation. Corner jumps are also a result of a glitch, but if they got rid of them it would be like using a huge part of the game, and if they made them an actual part of the game then they would almost certainly become easier and that would ruin the "coolness" of them. I think that Absolutely Nothing about the engine or game play should be changed. The only things M&R should do is take Nreality and all of the mods for it make then user friendly and integrated in to NED; make NED more user friendly; integrate NUMA in to the userlevel such as rating, commenting, and favoriting, along with the play a with with just the number thing Unreality did. The only two changes i really would like to see is Z,X,C snapping for tiles and a quarter tile (half of a 5 tile).
Also I am pretty sure that M&R intended for us to be able to dodge bullets from the chain gun other wise they would have uses the code they wrote for the guass to make a continuous stream of fire.

Hm...
On one hand, I'm used to being able to glitches now, but on the other hand, glitches can get annoying.
One in particular is where a slope can make you go through a one-way. I mean, you can use it with success in a map, but sometimes it unintentional, and you go through the one way and hit a mine or something.
One they should fix definitely is where laser drones fire through tiles. This gets on my nerves. While it doesn't happen often, it does happen every now and then, and can mess up a good run.
I can't vote. :[

there'll always be more glitches come to think of it. the false oneway thing was just one of the first.
recently the walljumping-between-mines glitch was discovered and i did my first bounceblock double jump on an AMLT map less than a week ago. mappers like Meta_Ing are always going to be able to figure out how to win with whatever they have. Kind of like the MacGyver of our little world of maps, mappers will always discover new glitches.
i guess i'll vote 'no' actually because mappers are now acustom to the age-old glitches and are utilizing them successfully. The only ones whose experiences are lessened by glitches are those who dont know about them; commonly, noobs. but they grow to love them as we do and pass on their knowledge to future noobs.

wall, floor, or ceiling jumping between mines 1 tile apart are not glitches that is just the smallest area the ninja can fit in to. They are also not new at all, KryX discovered them and most other tricks back in like '05. Also bounce block double and triple jumps are not glitches either. The bounce block recoils faster than the ninja goes upward or to the side from a jump so it hits the ninja allowing for another jump.

If they're going to change them, I'd hope they wouldn't do it for N 1.5. They've been part of the N series as long as all of us have been here in this community. Such major gameplay tweaks would only make sense to be released as 2.0, in my opinion. Especially since 1.5 was/is basically intended to provide the same sorts of updates that Unreality's graced us with in his mod.
So no, not for N 1.5. I like these parts of the game, as I'm familiar with them.

If we had the current gameplay preserved in a classic mode, I don't care what else they do. Certainly, they can't completely remove the current gameplay mode and fix all the glitches because it would break demos and highscores.

I'm pretty sure they said somethign about that back on ye old forums. Can't find the post, but I seem to remember them suggesting a N1.5 mode and a classic mode where bouncblocks and chaingun behave differently.

I can't decide, but I think it's no.
Sure, the glitches are fun in N v. 1.4, but I think it's no gonna be so much fun in the next version. So I vote no. But, since many people have been used to these glitches (and maybe some who even liked them), store an archive on N v. 1.4 in a website for download, since N v. 1.4 is great already.

Yes, a million times yes.
Yes, keep the servers open for scoring in the 1.4 version.
Better yet, if you love them so much provide said glitches in modifications of the game.
The game is about what the creators intended that is an environment in which they set the rules and you devise a method to be skillful within those rules. Most game designers work really hard to ensure that their games have all the bugs kinked out. Glitches (in this case beneficial bugs), shouldn't be treated any differently. We the gamers go through many possibilities to find out what they are so they don't have to.
This is why I have a grudge with games like GunZ and more recently Online play with Super Mario Kart or Super Smash Bros. Brawl. (That just hurts me... a lot) Feel free to exploit those glitches though. Oho. Alas I should've expected the current poll to be appalling.

hell no, The amount of maps I've made that that would break...
The innovations possible because of glitches make the game.

So much would be lost. Highscoring would almost be EASY. All of the little quirks like that are part of what makes N.... N. Honestly, the game would be less fun.

Being less fun is way too much of an opinion. I already mentioned to have said quirks reinvented yet be optionally left out. As much as I love old things. They will seriously get rusty and need to be reimagined or emulated in a manner that removes these sorts of things. Besides I'm fairly sure you will be able to keep the previous version anyway. What the hell do you want the new version to do anyway?

I'm equally as pretty sure that it was an oversight. I remember reading a Raigan post sometime back that said it came about by accident, and that they were leaning toward fixing it. Of course, that was back when they were leaning toward N 1.5 at all, so draw your own conclusions.

It really depends on the effect that the glitch has. Some glitches would be disastrous when fixed, since a large number of maps would not work at all. Levels like 86-3 would be incompletable. On the other hand, some glitches are just annoying, and others have very little effect. Here is what I think should happen:
The thwump trick on 86-3 glitch: NO!!!
Corner jump "glitch": NO!!!
Wrong way through oneway platform: No
Stutter-stepping while trying to perpendicular jump off a slope: YES!!! It does nothing except annoy everybody...
Hitting a mine through a tile, like can happen in 124-4: Yes (again, it's just annoying)
NaN on the end of a gauss turret's code: Probably not
Laser drone firing through tiles: Yes
Userlevels practice mode personal best: YES!!!
Positive decimal part on below-zero timer: Er... yes
Glitchy stuff that DDAs thrive on: If they were fixed, there would be riots...

Some of the glitches makes the game more enjoyable and fun.
However, as therealone said, if you get rid of some glitches, and it will ruin the game.
On the other hand, it would be cool that some glitches fixed, it can get annoying sometimes.
And "Both" option should be added to the poll.

I voted yes, despite my 22+ maps based on glitches. I do like finding/exploiting glitches, but they really shouldn't be there.
However, if they do fix the glitches, they should keep a copy of the old physics engine to be used for maps that came out before the change. There should also be a change in the map data syntax, so that the game can tell the difference. This way, the old maps will still work, but new maps can be glitch-free.
On the other hand, it might be very hard to fix all the currently known glitches. Teleportation, for example, would require a complete rewrite of the physics engine to fix, fixing gold delay could make the game lag more with a bunch of objects nearby, and fixing the hit-objects-through-tiles glitch could also slow things down.

I think the only glitches that need fixing are when a laser fires through tiles and the ability to walljump through downward-facing oneways. The rest add to the experience of the game, and like others have said, it just makes it fun.
