Are we going to see the next version on N? Or Robotology?

Talk about the classic version of Metanet Software's amazingly popular freeware platformer right here!

N is in 1.4 version since 2005. It seems like N+ has a high priority for developing. Just check out the News forum on metanet.2.forumer.com and you'll see my point. N seems to be abandoned from future developing, Robotology is deeply in programming phase and it's not really moving from that. Everything else is dedicated to N+. I am a real sceptic about these, what is really pity.

N+ came first. Next, it's Robotology. Then, and only then, will we see the final version of N.

Someone made a mathematical calculation, coming to the conclusion that N v1.5 would be released in March 2008. It never was. It's because they have way too much on their plate, between N+ for three consoles, Robotology, and innovating N and incorporating parts of NReality into v1.5. In other words, it's going to be a much longer wait. We'll see it, just not soon.

Somehow, I have my doubts. Unless SOMEONE works on it themselves, I don't think we will see the next version of N. Robotology, maybe. It's possible that the learning curve was too steep, and they have decided to do something else without announcing it.

If they have done that, I expect something awesome!

I can only guess that work is still going on for various projects.

With only two people working on their games, Mare and Raigan have their hands full with Robotology right now. Unless something major that prevents them from completing the game happens, the only thing to do is just wait a (albeit a possible long) while.

The games will eventually come out, but for the time being, it's definitely not worth waiting or worrying about them. Mare and Raigan are extremely busy people, and creating even a simplistic game such as N can take a very long time. Besides, all of the previous estimates for the release dates of Robotology and N v1.5 have been very inaccurate. In the meantime, the best thing to do is to play a bunch of N! Or, uh. Or do things in real life too.

Last time I checked, the schedule said "Spring of 2008". In any case, I'll be fine with NReality for now.

Personally, I don't think we're likely to see N v1.5, since Metanet have more important projects (also since Nreality has already implemented many features people wanted in v1.5). We may get source code at some point, though.

I'm pretty sure Robotology will eventually be completed. Sure, it's been in the works for a while, but that's because Metanet have been working on N+. Now that it's been published, I imagine that we'll start seeing more progress on Robotlogy, though I understand M&R are still doing some DLC for N+.

I thought they had finished building the actual content, but still had to sort out some stuff with regard to distribution. I may well be wrong, though.

Regardless, N+ is pretty much at the end of the development cycle, and as such we should expect some news on Robotology in the near future.

I can only hope that they haven't abandonded Nv1.5. I just couldn't bare the news of that. Even so, I can't wait for Robotology. I understand that Mare & Raigan have a bunch on their plates right now with N+ and all, but since it is nearing its end, like Atilla, I expect some news in the near future.

Still, we will have to wait regardless for anything.

It took me a while to realize what he actually meant by that. I don't think v1.5 will be out until the end of the decade, probably even later than that. We'll just see, though.

They couldn't abandon it! That would be so uncool.

But seriously, it's been almost 4 years.

They have to make money, too, you know. N doesn't give them any money. Robotology and N+ have/will.

I don't think it would be "unbearable" for me if Mare and Raigan were to abandon N v1.5. After all, there were scarcely any suggestions I saw on the old forums which I would consider "improvements" on N v1.4. If Mare and Raigan were to make another few columns in 1.4 format and released those, then continued working on Robotology/another new game, I'd be more than content. :)

And notsteve, why do you doubt we will be around to see N v1.5 when it comes out? Many of us have been here for at least three years now, and if v1.5 is to be released, I don't see it being released any more than two years from now.

we will be seeing robotology
mainly because Mare and Raigan just recently realized they can make money of games and are now strangling this new approach for every dollar it will give them.

they deserve it

N hasn't been abandoned, M&R are just working according to their priorities, and it seems N 1.5 is at the bottom of the list.

And honestly, I see no reason for it to be any higher than their other projects. I have been looking forward to Robotology. N v1.5 cannot be as different and new as a completely new game will be. Nothing they can do will make it better-received than Robotology. So, I say, make as many games as you want before you go on to version 1.5 for N. Because it's about as good as it's going to get. I like it as it is...simple. Even NReality is too much different for me. I want an entirely new game if I'm going to have something different come out of Metanet.

I just hope that N v1.5 is released before I lose my interest for the game entirely. I'm quite excited for Robotology though.
