Talk about the classic version of Metanet Software's amazingly popular freeware platformer right here!

I can imaging that this had been sugested 189275x times.

Ghost Mode.

Ghost mode is that you place a demo in (The fastest AGD demo of a map for example) and like a normel demo it will play for you. but now you can play normel at the same time. So you would see a grey N (the Demo) and a black N (the normel N, unless you have a different colour).

This is usefull the try to be faster and break a highscore or speedrun.

Ok what do we now with this:

the Ghost N can go through doors, switches, lasers, drones etc. the ghost will only play the demo without affecting the normel gameplay. Enemies should ignore the ghost N. and when the ghost N dies you should get any kind of a notice.

I kinda like that.
It'd also save time for some harder puzzles you want to figure out, and you can just do it directly on your first or second try, instead of watching the demo first, and then redoing it with probably just a vague idea of what to do.
I support this idea.

This has been suggested many time, and it's always been shot down. Something to do with the impracticality of the idea, as a ghost would either trigger the objects before you have a chance to get to them, thus ruining the map, or to beat this, it would require an entire new set of objects in 'ghost mode,' which would lag like hell.

so, most maps wouldnt lag much, only huge ones. in that case, dont have it on. id like this a lot.

Couldn't it just screen-record it, and put it in the background? Flash should be able to record video, and playing it won't be too hard, just fade it and/or tone it.

Just record the player dont record objects and whatnot so that it doesnt trigger objects ... maybe like the player can walk through doors assuming it got the switch in the demo

wow that'll totally work on levels where you have to run over doors, great!
im not sure how feasible recording video is..

As appealing an idea it may be, it'll ultimately fail because you wouldn't want the ghost to be triggering doors or enemies. It's not feasible enough to implement.

Well I don't know how hard it is to implent it but, what if the ghost doesn't trigger the doors but door straight through them. Like a real ghost! well "reall."

If the ghost doesn't interact with anything, how is it an accurate representation of a demo?

out of intrest, how much lag would you get from having twice the objects?

Yeah, I initially thought that the ghost would be like a real ghost.
But on further thought, I guess in some aspects, it wouldn't work. Cause what happens when there's a seeker drone, or any enemy apart from mines, which would it shoot at?

I still think that the ghost drone could just go do it's thing, without affecting the objects. And when it does have something to do with it, it does so invisibly?

i think there should be a ghost set of objects, so the ghost enemies attack the ghost ninja, and show where he died if he did, but the ghost should not interfere with anything in your playspace, as that makes it redundant. its like the "ghost car" in more racing games, this would be for improving your time on maps.
thats why im wondering how much lag another set of objects would be..

Well, if you compare it to a ghost of a racing game, it would be the equivalent of loading another semi-transparent version of the level of the top of the version you are playing. It would lag a lot. Only people with super fast computers and/or levels with almost no objects would play smoothly.

All I can say is this would be problematic if the player was using the light grey ninja. Very disorientating. Perhaps the ghost could be a distinctive red colour? DMC style!

Well I think that the enemies should ignore the (maybe red) Ghost N. So the map with everything on it should be the same only you will see a ghost N.
And when the ghost N dies there should be some sort of a notice.

Or like before theyre are no ghost objects and the n just completes the map as usual whilst like ghosts do can go through walls without the door opening but it still goes through the switch cos i does that in the demo
