this is an Idea avarin(nexx) gave me...

hot maps has been a place where you submit a map and hope for it to be rated.. the problem has always been that they never get raed (which isn't that important) or commented about.. which sucks...
all of us wanna be great at mapmaking yet how can we improve without that lacking criticism..
I don't want to help noobs get better.. no. what i'm saying is this:

you open numa...
you click hot maps...
then..
you don't even look at the author.. not even once or it wont work..
you look at the map and read the discription.. if its looks interesting and not noobish click it.. (remeber maps don't always look great but still play great..)
after that look at in detail then play it..
read the comments, write one yourself then rate it if you want to...
when you have done all of the above in order look at the author..(you will be suprised)
if you find a good map then post it here or if you want to discuss a technique or style that you fancy then post it here..
A map will be chosen each week as the best..

I atleast want 7-10 people to start..

(i cant do this alone.. I will need two experienced users? GTM.. Avarin? anybody really..)
judging will be made public to the group..
a list of maps will be put up for anybody to see..

hope this works.. NN14

I think Avarin was hinting at you joining the already-existing Map-Rating Group.

You'd be much better off recruiting for Avarin's thread. It's organized extremely well and in full swing.

There's no point diluting the idea.

Avarin's group is more organised.. yes.. but the point of this is to notice other authers and maps.. read the instructions..

I was considering joining his group when I get home from denmark..
I am very aware of what he is doing..

edit: oh and yanni... read my nobody cares thread.. you will see what avarin said...

If you think you can organize something that would be more efficient than directing users who need attention to these forums and Avarin's thread in particular, then I won't say anything else.

Good luck with it.

The problem is, if I, for example, have limited time in which to play maps, I don't want to waste my time with new users' maps, I want to search up atob, blackson and destiny, to pick some (not quite) random examples.

Why thank you, atob. :) Did you check it out at some point?

LoL, which one? This thread was also an idea of mine. :P

Yeah, there's always that trade-off. It sucks. What's more, let's say there are about 50-60 new maps per day. Probably about 10-20 of those are worth playing in my eyes. The problem is even at the lower limit I don't play 10 maps per day, so even if I choose "full hot maps" on the initial trade-off, there's only so much that can be done. I rarely check the hot maps listing these days unless I have submitted a map recently. (And when I submit maps now, I expect full and well to have to post in MRT/MCT/MRG to get a decent amount of attention)

I like that you had the initiative to start this thread, but some of your specifics seem a bit off. Like why have you placed so much emphasis in not looking at the author? That'd be an interesting experiment, but it's not what this group is about. Then there's the public judging, which is unnecessary and a potential turn off to would-be participants. As for a map being chosen as the best, that reminds me of KA's Sunday N, and it would be nice, but it's going to require this thread to be in full swing.

I think one thing you should do is have a lower limit that people should participate, like 7 maps per week or something. I don't know if you've been around long enough to know about the NUMA pledge thread, but basically one guy was trying to encourage everyone to rate more maps (kinda like this, I suppose), but the trouble was that lots of people "took the pledge" and continued going about their normal rating routine. Having a minimum to contribute per week seems like a way to actually go about accomplishing things. Instead of having public ratings, you could just have public thumbnails or something. I suppose the real problem with this group is that there's no direct incentive, so participants may lose interest after a while. Not sure what to do about that.

But anyway, those are my thoughts. Take them or leave them. Also, despite my interest in this, I may not be able to join for a while. I'm pretty backlogged for the next few days and then I might be going on a trip for 2.5 weeks. I'll keep you posted.

now listen..
My point is that whenever you have time you can look at the hot maps..
on fridays you choose the best map and post it here.. we can then discuss these maps.. 7-10 maps.. according to the users.. the best map will be chosen and displayed...
anyway.. Do you want to help Avarin?
