So heres my new (probably?) collab idea
It needs 4 members who are each allocated one quarter of the map (Top-Left),(Top-Right),(Bottom-Left) and (Bottom-Right)
1 player is also allocated to place the ninja and 1 to do the final compile of data.
Phase 1
Each mapper makes a quarter map in their allocated quarter. You shouldn't try to fit a whole maps worth of stuff in the space just what would take a look at one of your usual maps and see what is in that corner of it for example and no exits or ninjas at this time. Your map should not expand outside your corner. Once all the 4 mappers are finished each mapper will pm their quarter's to the 2 mappers with quarters adjacent to them so that nobody sees the quarter diagonally opposite them. For example each Top-Left should pm his product to Top-Right and Bottom-Left but NOT Bottom-Right
Phase 2
Each mapper edits their own corner in discussion with their 2 adjacent fellow mappers in order to make the border sections between each quarter work and the tiles and gameplay flow into one another. However no details should be given to a mapper of the mapper opposite them. For instance Top-Right should tell Top-Left nothing about Bottom-Right. Once all the 4 mappers are finished each mapper will pm their edited quarter's to the 2 mappers with quarters adjacent to them again.
Phase 3
Again each mapper edits their own corner in discussion with their 2 adjacent fellow mappers this time they can also organize to place doors which cross between them. So for instance Top-Left can organize with Top-Right to Place a locked door in Top-Right with its key in Top-Left similarly with exits. Still no details should be given to a mapper of the mapper opposite them. Once all the 4 mappers are finished each mapper will pm their edited quarter's to the one pre-selected data compiler (probably me) who will join all 4 quarters together and post it
What is the point ?
Well I think it
- will be fun
- encourage really in depth thought about how to best work with the space you have and other mappers
- increase communication between collab participants
- maybe build up some hype for the final map
- create a really interesting experimental product
- each participant will get a fascinating moment when they finally see and play it complete as they will never before have seen part of the map and this is what makes it rare
Who and When ?
Well I'm looking for participants so if your interested say so and it will probably be first come first served. If the first map goes well and there is plenty of interest we may to more. At for the timing I saw this happening over a fairly long time frame like a week to a month per phase.
Any other question/thoughts/insults I welcome still loads of stuff to be decided so get involved I hope people show interest in this.

The big issue I see with this is how to compile the data. I mean, if you have both tile and object code, it's impossible to do a simple copypaste, and it'd be aggravating to everyone to have to entirely remake the others' maps. How are you going to get them stuck together?

OK thanks for the responses guys
Looks like so far we've got Me, Alex777 and Squibbles. so we need one more. Don't sign up unless you really want to be part cause if someone bails half-way through that would kill it but aside from that I'm really grateful to people who show interest. Once we have 4 I'll put the names in a hat and do a draw to allocate corners unless there is any objections.
@KlanKaos I don't see how that would and be a big issue I once combined my tile-sets from what was originally two maps into one its ok if you use the grid for reference when reproducing and it might take a little while but I'm happy to do it and so is Squibbles. As for objects thats just a copy and paste job.
I'm away tomorrow but hopefully by Sunday night we should know what is happening and get started.

Ok so having got the final 4 in I wrote the names down on paper and drew them out of a hat (empty bag of crisps). For each person the limits of their corner are also indicated by the filled in section on the map data below (as a map doesn't divide exactly into 4 center square will just be an E). Any confusion post in the thread or pm me. Do your corner well at a relaxed pace (cause I'm quite busy right now) and say so here (do not post map here) when your done. We will move on once everyone is.
squibbles = Top-Left
Kablamo_Boom* = Top-Right
chume14 = Bottom-Left
Alex777 = Bottom-Right
*I also did a final random draw to decide who placed the ninja and Kablamo_Boom got it

Wouldn't it be easier for one person to do the first part, then hand it to the next, who just adds to it by making his part. He then hands the completed half to the next person, who in turn adds the last quarter, and then submits the final map?
Also, this is my acknowledgment.
