Top Ten NUMA Maps

by KinGAleX
I thought it'd be cool to go through my favourites and decide which are my top ten NUMA maps. So I made a list. Here it is:
10. jeffkillian -
Desperado

The epitome of all symmetrical action maps, ever. You cannot make a better one than this, simple as that. Flawlessly simple concept, with decidedly amazing reactions.
9. MARIJNENANDRIES -
Silver Pillars 3

Strangely, although I tend to enjoy a more aesthetically pleasing Race map more, the sheer elegance and speed at which this one executes its purpose is gorgeous and dazzlingly fun.
8. jSweep -
A Map in a Cage on Antibiotics

Easily the smallest map on this list. I can't tell you exactly why I like it, but it's certainly amazing. Ridiculous tileset is ridiculously extravagant.
7. Chaotix_0 -
Abstract Hollow

What a strangely beautiful mine-jumper, for one created in such a limited era of mapping. This opened my eyes to loving mine jumpers everywhere, and practically tops my list of them.
6. Yahoozy -
Abhor the Mountain; Hesitation

I actually really enjoy climbing that mine wall. It does not make me punch babies.
5. Barabajagal -
daffodil complex

I think you can tell by now that I like a lot of mines in my maps. This one is certainly no exception, each so perfectly placed. Gives me gigantic boners and such.
4. Templex -
Twig

One might say that in his later career he over used that tileset type and play style. But this was where it began, and the pinnacle of his achievements. Brilliant map.
3. lord_day -
Mishbitsu Hydrant

Finally, one of my favourites that's been featured. Gives me a bit of peace to know that my opinion is occasionally shared. And with this map, at a four after forty-one votes, I think it is.
2. krusch -
Domo-kun FTW!

Not only the second best dude in the world ( I think I'm pretty cool ), but also the second best map on NUMA. Let's hear it for my Tan Tan.
1. AMomentLikeThis -
Poetically Pathetic

And here we are. My favourite NUMA map. My favourite map full stop, actually. So many mines, so much corner jumping, so much beauty and aesthetic value. I can't get enough of this shit. When AMLT presents, he presents large. Wooooord.
Anyway, that's that. I'd like to see if anyone else has some top lists at all! I'd be interested to see. Or if they agree or disagree with my choices.

Haha wow KinGAleX, I see you're not a fan of aesthetics. I'll get my top 10 on here in a sec...
----
10.
I have loved this map ever since I first played it. It's a beauty.
9.
Fret's best map, and my favorite from him.
8.
Amazing tiles, great gameplay.
7.
Although this is very recent, I was blown away by this map. I don't know why either.
6.
I've never seen 1 tiles used as good as they are in this map. Amazing gameplay as well.
5.
The tile progression, the gameplay, just...everything...
4.
My favorite puzzle map on NUMA.
3.
Atob provides a joyous adventure map, hand dipped in his very own style.
2.
This is the best teleporter level, like ever.
1.
My favorite Baraba map; how couldn't one of his maps be first? This one has amazing tiles, and imo, even better gameplay.

What a ridiculous thing to say. I wouldn't have picked all those maps if I didn't find them aesthetically acceptable. :/ That's the style that I enjoy. Aesthetics are completely subjective.

10.
Beautiful tiles. And gameplay. And stuff.
9.
One of the best abstract loopy race mixes I've ever seen.
8.
One of epigone's better race maps imo, with fantastic flow and everything. :D
7.
Quite an oldie, but still a goodie. :D
6.
My favorite race from destiny, ever.
5.
One of the greatest action maps I've ever played. Stunning gameplay, aesthetics, concept, blahblahblah.
4.
Sweet, sweet aesthetics & gameplay, even in such a compacted area of space.
3.
I've always had a thing for these kind of races. :)
2.
Fantastic implementation and concept, with cool aesthetics to boot.
1.
Continuing with all these race type maps, I find this as my overall favorite map because it was just a blast to play. Not to mention the great aesthetics & concept overall.
----------
As you can see, my list is indeed a little biased, but you know... :P

I don't really know if I'd put them in order, but here are my ten favorites, more or less.
Climbing Down
Great progression, and it's the first map I ever really saw from drikam. I was instantly in love <3
Temple from the Within
It's incredibly refined, sharp and playable. And I just love this style in maps.
movie love and tunnel vision
Contains everything I'd like to see in a map. Progression, interesting mechanics, aesthetics. Tidy looking. A great improvement on the first version.
Minimalism is the new pink
It's got great mechanics and aesthetics, and it's pretty unique too. Plus, I <3 eganic and wumbla together.
refuselife
A) Palemoon map. B) Has regularity, which I like. C) Is still random and classic palemoon.
n²: ancient + temple = stepstep argh!
What?! An nreality map with contrivence? And better still, one that stands up under it's own gameplay...
The Pulpit-z
Simple, yet effective. I love the tiles in this, and the gameplay both manages to distance itself and keep to the theme. Good stuff.
Fugitive
Great theming and gameplay, tied together by a really neat teleporter mechanic. Definitely a keeper.
Jungle Leap
Again, great aesthetics, atmosphere, gameplay. The works, and from a different author this time.
Asche Zu Asche
I don't even have a reason for this one. I just remember playing it, tucking it away, then regretting not being able to play it again, doing a massive trawl to find the author, and faving it. Ah. There we go.

i find that fairly offensive for multiple reasons. one being that it's spammed with mines. the mechanics may be good, but you've been here for how long? i hope you were joking. i certainly couldnt tell.
if it is
your opinion then make it clear rather than stating it as a fact. i take minejumpers very seriously.

I think we can assume all statements as such need not be prefaced with in my opinion. As otherwise everyone'd basically need a "In my opinion," button on their keyboard. We can let those sorts of things slide.
I find it interesting that most people's lists seem to be composed of maps mostly after the 100000 mark while mine are all older. I guess I'd find it hard to really consider a map in my top ten without it having stood my own test of time. A debatable idea in and of itself, but I think a good bit of reflection can really help you cement or refute your opinion.

That's why we have imo isn't it? A short simple way of saying in my "opinion" so as not to peeve people with seemingly as-a-matter-of-fact info.

Ya know, I think you're right on there. Fads come and go but a truly good map is always in style.

I'll add my list soon. I can't disagree more with' the older the map the more worthy it is' concept, though. If you've been here long enough, and played enough maps, you'll know exactly what a map needs to be an instant classic. And as that's subjective, well...
Also putting 'imo' to specify opinion in a thread asking for your personal top ten maps on NUMA is a ridiculous notion.

I'll post a list soon, and it will emphasize older maps--I agree with KA.
Btw, PALEMOON, I liked yours.
Good thread, especially if some of the '04-'05 members post. I'd like to see those lists.

I agree it doesn't mean a map is more worthy dependent on age. I simply am stating I think time is a good test. A map can be a classic regardless of when it is made.

I've no doubt forgotten a few. I'm too lazy to manually negate results truncated to remind myself of my favourite maps from way back in the day, so for now I'll settle for those I can remember off the bat.

atob, nice list. I went back and played a few of those (some for the first time in two or three years) and had some fun. I will edit this post later with the rest, but my favorite map is Valley of the Watchmen.
EDIT: I realized all my faves are from mappacks, which doesn't apply.

I've only been here for 6 months, so I only have a top five instead of ten (and they're not as old as some of the other maps in this thread).
