Out of curiosity, what is the average length you'd say you spend creating a map before you decide it's finished?

My average is maybe 3-6 hours (doing other stuff between conception and completion of course), though I've been known to work on a map for the better part of a week.

I average like 45 minutes a map. I only tell the people on IRC that I am going to make a map when I am like a half hour into it already. Sshsshhhshhshshshhh its a secret :)

Also, I know I saw this thread on the old forums somewhere.

Probably in the neighborhood of 2-3 hours for ordinary maps, but particularly involved or special maps can take days.

On average, my maps take about 3 hours, with 2 hours of other stuff taking up most of that time.

yep, my answer is about the same as Palemoon's. But I still average around 45 minutes.

1 to 2 hours assuming no distractions. Which their usually are, and so time estimates are pretty much impossible.

Only time I've spent more than twenty minutes on a map was on my most recent DDA.

Usually around 45 minutes, maybe an hour and a half if I'm getting playtesting for an MotA map. Races take me days, with an hour or two per day.

10 minutes. I have other things to do... My style is minimal. I don't like spending time on things, since my mind wonders a lot. 10 minutes is enough for me if I have a bit of time, since I have lots of chores, I study, I cook, and I meet up with friends, so spending more than 1 hour of mapping for each map is hard to fit into my schedule, and I'll probably get bored to the bone if I spend more than 30 minutes on a map.

I'm surprised that some dedicated people spend days on their maps, but then again, I'm surprised that people still play pokemon, (but not anymore, as I realise it's a video game).

I've spent between 10 minutes and 5 days on maps. On average, I'd probably say 2 hours or so (not counting distractions).

Yeah.

I don't have too much time, plus my maps aren't that interesting so I get hugely bored playtesting them and sometimes just give up.

1-3 hours. The majority of my time goes to finding something that looks catchy. Once I get that, I can very quickly (usually) make a map with it.

I cant remember the last time I sat down and made a map and finished it in that sitting. Most of the time i make the map and just change i as time goes on. If you add it up, its about 2-3 hours.

assuming its an actual map, and not one of my little spazzy shit-maps that i end up delisting, up to an hour.

but if its a really good one, i cant be going back and forth from map-making to facebook or numa. i'll lose my concentration and it'll take much longer than it needs to.

and so it goes, and so it goes, and so will you soon i suppose.
