The point when making a map is to have a fun, interesting map, not an impossible-blowyoursocksoff hard one.
The point is not to make a map no one can beat, but to make one people want to beat.

I also don't understand why you posted this. There are several guides for new mappers that give a lot more than two sentences of advice, and even touch on the idea of the balance between fun and difficulty that you are hinting at.

It's not really about 'the point'. Different people like different things. Some people might like the things you seem to dislike, such as insanely hard maps. Simple as that.
