1) A way to change your password on the site itself. If there is a way already, that's because I haven't found it yet (but I have been looking, for a while).
2) A way to create an account on the site, for those that find the site before the game.
OR
3) I realize that it could lead to easier multiaccounting (maybe). So if not #2 then direct links to metanetsoftware and Unreality's site for nreality are a must... and the "other" heading is not included in your design. :P
BUT I realise that this is more for design layout and all these are just features, not design problems. Because like most I feel the design rocks, just needs a background color besides white.
......
And the X maps with unchecked ratings... why couldn't they all be checked at once? Or ten at a time (if that many are) and all you need to really see is the main map info just like the maps section has. They aren't like comments where one has to go to the individual map to see the new comments.

@SkyRay: Interesting idea. I think that anything that encourages rates/comments is worth looking into. I think implementing all of those functions would obsolete a single map’s page, however, and I don’t think that’s right for the culture of the site. More functionality from the hot maps page could be good, though.
@Pig2: Great idea with subsequent maps in the recent maps section; this has always pissed me off. I don’t know if bitesizing will be implemented or not, but including the map info is something that bitesized NUMA did not do. I think the most that would go on that page are the titles and authors. Page numbers for author’s maps is a great idea. And I have no idea about the sorting, I’m no programmer.
@iban: Map data / multiple demo data in the comment box could be useful, something to look into. Don’t know about the rating system, you’ll have to ask a higher-up. Favorite authors was in my design as a feature of the site itself now. Good point about the comment box; it’s already been addressed. The reply system is something that is a little beyond my comprehension. I wanted to limit it to 1 tier of replies, but beyond that I can’t say for sure what it’ll be like.
@lsudny: Both bitesized maps and featured maps are maps of high quality that certain users feel deserve to be more visible to the community. Being bitesized is definitely not as prestigious as being featured, though. Basically, bitesized maps are a way to faster spotlight a greater amount of higher quality maps.
@a happy song: My original design with the white background may or may not be the default skin for NUMA. Kablizzy pretty much nailed it – white is the color of choice for a crapload of websites, good and bad. I was just trying to be neutral. Either way, it doesn’t matter because everyone can pick their own skin. Also, most of the palette mock-ups I made were for dark versions of the site. Unless you just didn’t dig those.
@miststalker: The top 10 maps in the Active Authors page is actually a rather great idea. I can’t promise anything as it may not work in the layout, but I’ll look into it. Don’t know if the skin thing is possible, but might be a good idea.
@n0_ma11y: Boxing in each little different section is actually something I specifically tried not to do in my design. I don’t like the separation like that.
@heatwave: Sorry to hear that, mang.
@iban: Don’t know about the programming stuff, but the “Other” section is on the home page.

The palettes didn't specify that the background would change, unless I'm missing something. And it doesn't matter what the default is as long as we get enough choice.Cooby wrote:@a happy song: My original design with the white background may or may not be the default skin for NUMA. The site looks great as it is, so if we're going to make aesthetic changes we may as well offer as much customisation as we can to keep as many people happy as we can.

Ah. The background of the mock-up would be the background of the entire site. So whatever color is under NUMA is the background color.a happy song wrote:The palettes didn't specify that the background would change, unless I'm missing something.

It would only obsolete the single map page for those who wouldn't pay attention to the features on this map page otherwise.
If people generally don't pay attention to the comments of others, they won't bother visiting the map page, but those who like to be part of the community, will most likely visit the map page for the community aspect of the site. etc.

you've done your homework.Inspired wrote:Well let's see, how long does anything in this community take? I predict a year to confirm that we have confirmed Cooby's idea, 6 months to find someone to actually code it (Although, at the end of this time we find out that the person who could have done the job left a month back), a further 3 weeks to code, 10 days to adjust everyone into the new style and 2 weeks of complaints about how the old version was better. All up that is 593 days in total.

I much prefer how numa looks now to the redesign. Also, I fail to see how we can't just fix problems/implement new ideas without changing the way things look.
