America's Next Top Admin

Hey there. I've had a good three-ish year run as an Admin for NUMA, but I've become distant from you all and I'll soon be working full-time. So if you would like to talk amongst yourselves and choose somebody to take over for me, that would be good. It's a pretty cushy job. Being an Administrator consists of:
  1. Updating the Home Page (and hopefully this thread) with news posts
  2. Managing user account info (custom titles, disabling, editing bios, and that's it)
  3. Helping the Reviewers with proofreading and the Queue, and promoting and demoting them
  4. Running the monthly NUMACons and judging them
  5. Hosting the Dronies (which I'll help with as much as I can)
  6. Generally being present and answering questions (and then asking me if you don't know the answer)
The sooner we can find a successor the better. (And I'll still be around, of course. Nobody ever really leaves.)

I'm not planning on applying for this position, but might it be a good idea to have a vote once we have a list of potential candidates? Just a thought.

That'd be a good idea, but I don't see a lot of people with the time available and interest in doing the job existing. If there are a few people who apply perhaps.
Then again you could just have a few admins. More people to answer more questions. Less work done by more people.

I'd be up for it, I guess.

But I do think that it should be maybe two people? Real life can happen, two people increases the chance of somebody being available, and it also lessens the workload for the admins themselves.

Yeah, I suggested having a few people above.
Seems unreasonable to dump all the responsibilities onto one person. Then again, having to work with someone else can complicate things. If you rely on someone else and they can't be on or something.

I am willing to support behind lifdoff as well as the idea what there has to be more than one person holding the keys. That has been the main issue in all previous iterations of the various community web pages. People will have to go MIA from time to time, but that shouldn't bring everything to its knees. Redundancy is a necessity.

The problem is that administrators still don't have the requisite behind-the-scenes power, e.g. a forums administrator can't do anything if there's a problem with the server or domain, and a NUMA administrator can't do anything if there's... well, a NUMA administrator can't really do anything.

Just because you didn't do anything doesn't mean I didn't do anything. I did a great many things, and have decided to divvy up those jobs among a few people. Updates will be coming very soon.

Fuck you, you know what I'm talking about. The fundamental problems with NUMA are code and hosting and you have no control over them.

incluye wanted to migrate the site to python, but 'nid wouldn't allow it.

And there's the real crux of the issue. He doesn't have the time/drive/commitment/whatever anymore to keep the site running at a baseline level, and is for sure not willing to let anybody else take over his codebase. At least, that's the understanding I have from comments made over time.
