For the last few months I've had a sniper, who, although I appreciate them adding to my Ratings count, ends up pushing my maps completely off the Hot Maps page by 0ing them as soon as they're submitted.
I think this system needs to be changed, as, well... it's annoying...

as do I. but the hot maps page is crap. I'd be cool if users submitted others' maps to the hot maps page, instead of it being automatic.TribulatioN wrote:I still play your maps.

I agree that vote-floating is ridiculous; often I submit a map and it doesn't even start at the top because someone's map is already rated a four. Also, a lot of good mapmakers have taken to submitting unrateable maps, and I barely even get to see them before they're off the page.
I recommend talking to Gforce. He's currently making an alternate map archive, and he's considering throwing out the hot maps page.

Hot Maps is for good maps.
Active Authors is for maps in the order they are submitted.
And please, stop whining.
Ice Climbers are awesome. Deal with it.

Anyway, NUMA looks like it's about to go through a change in coders (as you no doubt would've read elsewhere in this forum), so suggestions (not rants) might get implemented quicker now.
There also appear to be alternative archives coming up in the near future for your viewing pleasure.

Sorry about that, but I agree with AMLT. Often a good map will go off the page before some of the crappier ones. Often maps slip way too early. everyone wants their map to have some good coverage, but as soon as it goes off the first page you can say goodbye to it being noticed.
also active authors just shows you a few recent submitters and some of their recent maps... not maps in the order they are submitted.
I think the idea was a good one but it has not been perfected, and is far from it.

It's a mess, aesthetically, it should show single maps and function just like the old newest maps page used to. At the moment it's just not very pleasing to use.Spawn of Yanni wrote:Zander, Active Authors does show the newest maps in the right order. The rightmost maps are the the ones submitted most recently - plus, it removes the problem the old NUMA had of one guy hogging the Newest Maps page. I don't know why it was never embraced, the only argument I've heard against it is that it isn't pretty.
On old NUMA, the two map queue already prevented a user from hogging the front page, the change wasn't needed for this page at least.

It only shows ten new maps.Spawn of Yanni wrote:Zander, Active Authors does show the newest maps in the right order. You sound like a whiny balloon man every time you come here it seems, amlt.
Maybe if you would stop and think about how to fix a problem, problems would be solved, rather than sitting around thinking about how much a problem sucks.

I mean, did you see that DDA Peanuts made that stayed at the top for like...20 hours maybe? I dunno. at least 18 hours. Still a lot.
So, all DDAs and NArts, should, as discussed before, have seperate galleries. When I go to Hot Maps, I personally want to see the good action maps to play. Sometimes you have to scroll through them because action maps never get as much attention as NArts and DDAs. Snipers are also a problem if you want to leave ratings on. I think possibly, you should have to comment before you can rate, so you have a reason for giving a 0, and people will know who it is. So if the person gives bad ratings, people will know that they should stay away from that person.
Just tossin' around some ideas.

No, that's not how it works. If your map is actually good, it will get attention. If it's average or less, it likely won't. you'll have to learn to deal with that like the rest of us.deltainferno wrote:i totally concur, check out my map, http://nmaps.net/154457 i think it deserved more... its my second best map as well, besides my 'individuality' map...
The reason the hotmaps pages are imbalanced is that ddas and narts hog the limelight as they take very little effort to consider for rating and have a much more general fanbase than particular authors and their specific styles do. Also maps with disabled ratings get pushed off far too soon (but I guess if you choose to disable in the first place you're going to have to live with that...).
Sniping also pushes a map off too quickly, as in Amlt's case.

If you would like some extra attention for your maps, use the Map Rating and Map Commenting threads. We can't change hotmaps so that it gives new mappers the attention they think they need - there are simply too many.deltainferno wrote:true, but im a noob and i need a little attention, then people can improve my maps by telling me how.

Yeah, I actually started disabling ratings recently, and since then I haven't had a map stay on for more than 30 minutes :(flagmyidol wrote:Also, a lot of good mapmakers have taken to submitting unrateable maps, and I barely even get to see them before they're off the page.
Agreed. It's not that Hot Maps itself is bad, but N-arts, highly-rated maps, etc. get way too much weight on their position than they should.atob wrote:I agree that hotmaps is horribly imbalanced right now. It's a good idea that needs some tweaking.
