Great! Can you also update my 00 best to 20:42? Just took another shot at the first column. I'm sure I'm going to break 20 with some more tries.DW40 wrote:I have updated some times.

I agree a 4-way race would have been entertaining (and maybe on a column with more to it than 00), and I'm still eagerly waiting for an eddy/macro column race.

Eddy vs Macro on column 50, 70, 80, or 90 I think would be a lot of fun to watch. That said the nature of column speedrunning at this point is such that I am not sure that either of those two have a huge advantage of any other the other active highscorers/speedrunners. Races between any of the active players would be great to watch.alsojp27ace wrote:I've been enjoying watching AGDQ and was free to watch this live. A very impressive run, especially considering the pressure (100k+ people were watching on twitch).

Glad you all liked the run, I was really happy with how it went. I'm hoping to do some runs of other columns and/or the full game once I get back from AGDQ. I'll install hexchat and start hanging out in the irc again if people need to reach me. I'll also be down for some column races on SRL if anyone is interested.
Also, once I get a chance I'll add the column times listed here to the speedrun.com N leaderboards. The site is down right now since AGDQ traffic is flooding it, but I'll post a link once it's back up.
For future GDQ events I'd love to see a race. I agree it would give the audience more perspective on the game and overall it would be pretty hype. I guess we can talk about that once the submissions for SGDQ open up.

Thanks for the kind words. I was kind of worried representing N since I'm not super connected to the main body of the N community, but I'm glad to have a positive response from you all (and the developers on twitter!)

ah, I'm glad you got props from Mare and Raigan! Good to see you didn't exploit too many bugs or anything.YetiRevolution wrote:Yeah I saw that race live actually. Cool to see since I don't get the chance to spectate N races much.

Kind of related to racing, I've been setting up a live stream at http://www.twitch.tv/moletrooper where I'm going to do Wings of Vi speedruns soon, and possibly N column runs some time. If I end up doing this a lot I'll be down for some racing as well.

You know, recording is just the first step to streaming live... Which is the first step to a macro vs. Eddy race on Twitch! We already know Eddy can record, and he sounds pretty good. I really hope this can happen sometime.macrohenry wrote:but maybe I'll record my playthrough when I try again.

Awful video quality, sorry for that. I don't know if N also lags when broadcasting live, I'll have to try it.
Btw, some of these runs have made it onto the speedrun boards. :D

How low do you think the time can go? I feel like 18:20 is my limit personally, but who knows what high scorers can achieve haha.
Edit: Compared your run to mine to see where I lost time. I gotta work on my later episodes apparently. Also surprised I lost 10 seconds on 05 just to movement. I also feel like you lost at least 10-15 seconds just to lag throughout the run, which is too bad :(

Nice Macro! That was a fun watch. You went for a lot of tough strats so that time will be tough to top.macrohenry wrote:18:42golf wrote:You know, recording is just the first step to streaming live... Not much of a trick to it. There is a little bit of strategy that can be employed. The jump has to be either JNJ or JNNJ and how it works is that you the second jump occurs the frame before your head hits the door. That will cause you to clip in to the door and then get forced back out. There is a slight bit of risk with this trick and that is if you jump at on the same frame your head hits the door you can die. Other than that the best advice for consistency I have found is make the first jump sooner than you think you need to.YetiRevolution wrote: Edit 2: What's the secret to the trick on 03-0? If you improve your score, your savefile has to be rewritten, and when your savefile grows, it takes time to open it, edit it and save it. That's why when you're already experienced and your .sol is big, this happens. I also use it as a measure to notice when I've improved my score on beforehand, I'm always looking for that lag xDgolfkid wrote:Great run macro. I'm just going to guess on the lag, but it looks like you only got the really bad lag when you got a new personal best on a level or episode? if so, that's basically what I get all the time, even when not recording, except mine only lasts for about a tenth of a second. That's how I always know if I improved my score :)
Before my comeback in 2014, in which I purposedly started a fresh sol, my previous one was over 10MB, and the time inbetween runs had gotten unbearable, like a whole second. It might not seem like a lot, but if you think about it, everytime you die, your savefile has to be rewritten too (death count), so I basically had to wait that time after every run, and lost my concentration when there were many deaths in a row xD That's the reason I refreshed my sol. And that's the story of my savefile, which nobody cares about.

Without an accurate way to time the lag I dunno how we'd factor it in to his time :/ The speedrun.com leaderboards are RTA (real time attack) which is usually meant to include all time in the game, except load times that can be accurately accounted for. That said I'm sure he can improve the time with a blank .sol so it probably won't matter for long.I think until macro retries with a blank sol, we should factor in level transition lag into his final time. I think he lost a good 10-15 seconds to lag.
I think it would be really cool if we had a tool that actually counted the in-game frames, but I don't know of a way to do that which accounts for deaths.

NReality has a built in frame counter in the top-left corner; you could just use that to add up all the frames. No gold calculations required (as it's a speedrun). If the player dies, just take a still frame of the frame count on that death and add it to the tally. This would completely eliminate any discrepancies to do with lag/how fast you can mash the space bar.YetiRevolution wrote:I think the lag is just caused by a slow harddrive. Like Eddy said, it has to write your new PBs to the .sol file, so if your harddrive is failing/slow that takes a long time. Not much to do about it.
