Tied the legendary 85-4. If you use display mode you'll see I added a little change right at the end, when approaching the bottleneck, by going a bit faster than usual, and then releasing left to not get killed. If you ghost against macro you can also notice this subtlety, for I'm a bit ahead of him heading into the drone, but he then catches up with me as he doesn't release the left key. Going full speed was the standard approach to this.

The point is, you can actually go much faster, but then you have to slow down quite a bit more, so even though you enter the bottleneck earlier, you have less speed and it ends up not being worth it. The question is now: Can this method be applied to clean time? Maybe going a bit faster and releasing a bit longer or better timed can make it.

Here's a faster run, I couldn't slow down enough and got killed, but you get the idea. This is too fast, as I'd have to lose most of my speed and it would not be worth it. However, my tied 0th proves it's at least as good of a method as not releasing (macro has most surely maxed the fullspeed method), but maybe you can clean more by optimizing the timing in this method.

I have a pretty good example of this taking place successfully, which happened in N v2.0 some time ago. For those not familiarized, open it by visiting here (xD): http://www.thewayoftheninja.org/nv2.html

Then go to level 21-2. It's a pity because a new route was developed, but at the bottom you can still see some old runs. Check both xela's run and either kk's or mine, and pay attention to the very ending, where there's a bottleneck.

We initially maxed the route at 6057 by executing the ending at full speed, without releasing the right arrow. Then kk realized it was better to go faster, and then slow down a bit to enter the bottleneck earlier without getting killed. It's an obvious technique, but it wasn't evident that it was going to be faster because you lose speed, but still it was clearly worth it as it allowed us to clean a frame (that we know).

This is what I'm trying to perform here. In this case, after the bottleneck there's a longer run to the end, which means the lost speed when slowing down might be more relevant. Also, let's not forget we have different physics here, and also frames are 50% longer here, hence harder to clean. Finally it's not exactly the same situation of course.

MBD'ing could help, but finding an optimal amount of slowdown and an optimal timing is very hard even in theory; it's not just a problem of execution.

Any thoughts on this?

EDIT: On a different note, I just tied 82-2 as well, finally realized what the fuck van was doing to clean that extra frame :P Worst/best part is, I think I had one more frame in me:

EDIT: Tied 95-0 and 26-0. Haha damn, it's tie day today. These are all levels I had wanted to tie at one point or another. Took 26-4, finally a proper 0th.

Congratulations on all of these, even if most of them are ties. A lot of people don't appreciate the patience and skill required to tie some of these frame-war maps. I think macro can take back 26-4. Good luck, buddy! ;)

Nice set of ties there Eddy. 95-0 is another example of a bottleneck that you can carry speed through as well. If someone can time it such that you slow down, but get a better chimney you might be able to save a frame or two because of the carried speed.

Nice, although I thought 80-2 left a little a bit to be desired, especially at the end (although I'm sure you are well aware of this); furthermore, I think 80-4 will be an easy target for Eddy. Nevertheless, it was a solid run, and any 0th taken from Eddy that will necessitate him dedicating time to taking it back is good for the scene.

Nice ep man. I won't be able to battle it during January sadly, it's the end of the first semester. I'm positive a ~365.5 run can be attained here though, I'll try to go for it after exams. It's good we're improving this ep. I agree 80-3 is a bit frustrating for such an unimportant level in the ep (in terms of level score).

That seems like a slower bottom section? I was thinking on making an MBD with this approach, I think it's faster based on Raif's time, which is only 1 sec faster than some legit runs I got, even though the beginning seems already more than 1 sec faster than my run, which leads to thinking the bottom half is slower.

You should test it; it's not like you're taking any legit 0ths at the moment. But in all seriousness, when you own more than two thirds of all the zeroths, there is little more to achieve.
