But upward-only highscoring contests are a dime a dozen. They might be a solid idea but they get old fast.

Why not have each map get a randomly drawn multiplier? So each week, say, two maps of the bunch are bonuses and are worth more to highscore?

i'm going to assume that with the value increases the judging will be more severe (for lack of a better word)... or will you still be judging them the same the entire way through? sorry if i'm going off on a tangent, this just seemed to bother mePheidippides wrote:As a runner, I'm favoring the following scoring system myself:
On every map, top 5 scores get 5, 4, 3, 2, and 1 point respectively. These values get higher in later rounds -- say, 10, 8, 6, 4, and 2. Most points after the tournament is over is the winner.

These scores are not for judging the maps; they are for the highscoring portion. First place on a map gets 5 points, second 4, and so on. The mapping judging will be a simple majority vote, if we can get a third judge.Sunset wrote:i'm going to assume that with the value increases the judging will be more severe (for lack of a better word)... or will you still be judging them the same the entire way through? sorry if i'm going off on a tangent, this just seemed to bother mePheidippides wrote:As a runner, I'm favoring the following scoring system myself:

We got held up on finding a third judge. If anyone steps forward to join flag and trance (provided those two are still up for it), this could happen.

Depending on when the contest is, I would be happy to judge.

If you, flag, and trance are all down to judge, we can start sign-ups very soon.

Bump. Would anyone still be interested in this? I have come upon a huge windfall of free time, and just in time to ring in 2014. What would you guys think of getting this started in January? If we can find three judges (or summon the three who volunteered last time), we could very well hold sign-ups through the holiday season and kick things off in the New Year.

I was on IRC before the holidays and someone pointed out to me that the ten-year forum anniversary is coming up in April. Any interest in getting this ready for April? As long as we have judges for the mapping portion, this would be pretty simple to run and something fun to celebrate ten years in our very tiny corner of the Internet. It's just a bit tough to project a few months and decide that we'll all be around for it -- judges, mappers, highscorers, and people who like to fill out brackets. I'm in if you guys are.
Also this is my 2300th cumulative post. Yay!
