If N isn't working on your computer, I don't see how you would be able to play or make maps for this contest. If you get it working, though, and want to participate, I'd prefer if the maps were on NUMA, but if you can't submit maps for some reason then I'll accept post attachments or data contained in

Wow, I just have to say that this is f***ing awesome. Really nice job, Pheidippides.
Though I don't like how if the champion gets knocked off once, he's out for the count. He should be able to challenge the current champion just like any other post-gym member. I presume you made that rule so that if there were two post-gym members, they wouldn't just be duking it out week after week, with the champion title switching back and forth. If that's truly the issue here, then have a delay (like 2 weeks, for example) until the former champion can challenge again. That way the current champion's whole future in this RPG doesn't rest on a single given challenge, but rather they have the opportunity for redemption. Do you see what I'm saying?

Basically, I don't want ex-Champions duking it out for the whole contest, offering less opportunity for new Champions to be crowned. I want to keep things fresh, with new faces and new mapping styles. Also, if Special Events and such go as planned, there will still be plenty of stuff for the Champions to do after they're defeated.
Edit: I've gathered all the scores and compiled all the results. Everyone who challenged a Gym should have received a PM with their results. If I've missed anyone, please let me know. Here's a bit of a Week 1 Recap, thus far:

Demos Confirmed

Scrimmages
-- None. (Let's see some scrimmages, people! Rules for scrimmages are here. Arrange one on the IRC, by PM, in this thread, however. You just need two mappers, a third competitor to Judge, and a way of emailing the results. It's a simple way to increase your Player Score anytime to move up in the rankings!)
Special Events
-- None. (Obviously, no Special Event this week. We'll see where the contest's at at the Christmas wacation before I go introducing more complexities.)

What downloadable version? If N is working on your computer, you don't need to download anything else. You play the Gym maps if you want to increase your score when challenging one. You challenge Gym Leaders in the Gym Challenge Thread and other competitors via PM, IRC, or some other means of organizing a scrimmage. You beat them by making a map that outscores theirs on this scale: 0-20 Gameplay + 0-10 Aesthetics + 0-10 Originality.Slayr wrote:it's not N thats not working it's the downlaodable version and how do i paticipate like what maps do i play? how do i challenge people, and how do i beat them?

Wow, I'm quite impressed with how this whole thing is shaping up. To be honest, when Pheidippides came to me a while back asking me to participate, I agreed to it but didn't give it much thought beyond just completing my map. But I have to say, a great deal of effort must have gone into this, and I'm glad to see it seems to be paying off.
Anyway, sorry it's a bit late, but Subtlety has now been posted on Numa.

I'm still kindof confused about the points. What do they do for me?
And the whole posting an agd on all gyms, can you just do that once or is it a weekly thing?

Points are used to rank Neditors at the end of each week. The first week's rankings will be going up on the blog on Monday. AGDs or completions only need to be done once. Once they are confirmed, you get a mark on the spreadsheet saying you've completed or AGD'd a particular Gym map, and you hold on to the Gym Challenge bonus for as many weeks as it takes for you to earn the badge from the Gym you completed or AGD'd. Once you earn the 400/800pt bonus for all completions or AGDs, you keep it for the rest of the competition (the 800pt bonus replaces the 400pt bonus, by the way). AGDs count as completions as well, so you can have any mix of AGDs and completions to get the 400pt bonus. For the 800, though, you need all AGDs.spudzalot wrote:I'm still kindof confused about the points. What do they do for me?

I, GTM, challenge anyone who passes onto this thread, with a scrimmage.
My rule for any challenger is...
Must contain one of every enemy! o_O

I submitted an AGD and I still lost. ;_; I'll keep trying.
Oh, and I was wondering, you can post a map on NUMA saying it will be for a challenge, but you can't post a map on NUMA that isn't for a challenge, and then edit it is so that it is for a challenge?

Yep, GTM, that's how the scrimmages work. Your competition needs to come up with a rule, too, and you both need to follow both rules. Then a third competitor has to judge the scrimmage, and one of the three of you sends me the results by PM or email, preferably email because I have /way/ more space for messages on Gmail and way fewer messages stored there compared to my PM boxes.
Riobe, I'm gonna have to say that tweaking old maps (pre-December-1st) to fit the contest is just as against the rules as using an old map that fits the contest already. If it's posted after December 1st, I guess you can tweak it if you want, but I think it'd be better to just make a map from scratch. Also, it's fine to post a map for the contest on NUMA and then enter it later.

Arg, that came out wrong. I meant that could someone edit the description of a map (not the map itself) so that it was for the competition?
Also, I'm guessing you can't have anyone playtest your map?

If the map was made after December 1st, I guess you can do that. And playtesting is fine, provided you can find someone who's okay with helping their competition. ;)Riobe wrote:Arg, that came out wrong. Also, I wouldn't ask judges to playtest. That, I would have to disallow.
Edit: Aww, man, I forgot! Back at 144 posts, I hit the 1000-post mark between both forums. Happy 1005th, I suppose.

Yeah, thats what I mean. You can use as many as you like, but at least one of each must be used.

Remember, guys, that both competitors must pick a rule for a scrimmage, and both competitors must follow both rules. I don't know what you might've organized via PM, but from reading your posts it sounds like there's only one rule, and that's GTM's.
