van, a suggestion after looking at the groups, and the scoring/advancement parts of the rules. I know that you say that it will be the winner of each group, plus the 4 others with the highest point totals. Since there's 10 groups, maybe advance the next top 6 so that you can have an even number for the head-to-head rounds after. Starting with 14 means you'd have multiple people with byes in the first round to get down to a round of 8. That just doesn't seem right to me. Even taking the top 6 is a pretty small set of the 30 or so who aren't group winners.

Van tells me that he'll take 10 groups winner + 10 best scores. So 20 people in total.

you can eat seeds (first i was putting them away but now i eat them, it's much easier and they don't do problems)
