Even if this doesn't win, tell me if it's good enough to submit
Here's an AGD
EDIT: Much better AGD
LAST EDIT: Sub 1200; I'm putting all these up because it depends on how fast you want to go, and how hard you want the level to be

But interpreting is so fun!Daikenkai wrote:This wasn't exactly what I had in mind when I said 8-bit. >_> Your interpretations went all over the place >_>
What did you have in mind, then? I thought you were referring to 8-bit videogames

Chaostar, I think you're about 24 minutes late. >_> sorry
And the winner would be maxon924, with Mustardude and Kablammo in 2nd and 3rd
by the way, I was thinking of the theme as more computer/tech oriented. Not blocks. Or games. Or mario.
ah well.

Half of the maps didn't even fit the theme >.>
The winner is
wumbla, because he fit the theme and did so in a way that I wasn't expecting, and had a good map to go with it
Mustardude is an honorable mention

if you want a map to fit a theme, then the theme should be more specific. i'd think that would be obvious.maxson924 wrote:Half of the maps didn't even fit the theme >.>

Isn't the theme to be used at the artist's discretion anyays? I'd rather have a better map inspired by the concept than something worse based solely on the standard interpretation. That said, I'm glad wumbla won :)eganic wrote:if you want a map to fit a theme, then the theme should be more specific. i'd think that would be obvious.maxson924 wrote:Half of the maps didn't even fit the theme >.>

When I was choosing the theme, I obviously wanted it to be specific enough for people to know where to start. However, I also wanted it to be broad enough to be open to interpretation.eganic wrote:if you want a map to fit a theme, then the theme should be more specific. i'd think that would be obvious.maxson924 wrote:Half of the maps didn't even fit the theme >.>
It was. Like I said, wumbla fit the theme, but did so by an interpretation which I hadn't thought of.GTM wrote:Isn't the theme to be used at the artist's discretion anyays? I'd rather have a better map inspired by the concept than something worse based solely on the standard interpretation.
Also, GTM, the Wild West was about 100 years after the colonial days ;P

thats ridiculous. If you want the theme to be open to interpretation, then how can you complain when the maps submitted dont fit the theme you gave?maxson924 wrote:When I was choosing the theme, I obviously wanted it to be specific enough for people to know where to start. Because the theme is open to interpretation. If the person doesn't even come close to the theme, then it defeats the purpose of this entire contest.eganic wrote:thats ridiculous. I guess it all comes down to the fact that everyone thinks differently; if anyone else thinks this is such a big deal, then I'll choose a more specific theme should I win again. Even so, when I was looking through the maps, I was as open-minded as possible. Looking back, it wasn't half, it was only a third: 3 out of 9 didn't fit. I already explained to GTM why his didn't fit; tbh, gr_8 and UKM submitted maps that I just couldn't relate to colonial days. I wouldn't have figured out Mustardude's either, had he not explained it. He did, though, and it made sense. Which brings me to my final point: if you think your map may be a little ambiguous, just explain how it fits.
