How does this work? Click to see.

I want this league to have a casual, welcoming feel so we maybe get lots of competitors. If a certain someone participates, it's likely a forgone conclusion who's going to be at the top of the leaderboard. I will not be tracking 0ths. There will instead be a focus on just improving your times and competing against those more evenly matched with you.

There are two components to this league. First is a weekly head-to-head matchup.
Every week, I will link to a map on NUMA. You will be paired off based on the results of the previous week. To participate in the head-to-heads, you have until 0:00 Sunday Nreality time to submit a demo for the map. I will then post a recap of the action.
This is not a rule, merely a suggestion, but please don't look at other people's demos during this period.

Secondly, I will track the cumulative scores achieved over all the maps. You are personally responsible for manually entering your times on this spreadsheet. You can continue to improve your times even after the week a map is first added. If you join the league late, feel free to back fill your times at your leisure so we get a nice full leaderboard.

If you would like to join, simply add your name to column A of this spreadsheet, and select a highlight color if you want one.

WEEK TEN

Week Nine - I think its time.

Leaderboard

loudog004 1328.900 +1
golfkid 1293.125 +1
Eddy 1227.825 -3
MiBeM 1093.300
ska 571.900
Head-to-Head

Code: Select all

golfkid 5-4
loudog004 1.5-7.5
MiBeM 3.5-2.5
jp27ace 3-2-1
ska 3-1-1
Eddy 2-0-2
Week Eight

Shuffle

Leaderboard
Eddy 1227.825 +5
jp27ace 1220.125 +2
loudog004 1196.525 -2
golfkid 1168.175 -2
MiBeM 1093.300 -2
ska 571.900 -1

Head-to-Head
golfkid 5-3
loudog004 1-7
MiBeM 3.5-2.5
ska 3-1-1
jp27ace 2-2-1
Eddy 2-0-2

And then everyone showed up to play. Lot's of action, as jp27ace played after a few weeks absence, grabbing the top time on this week's track as well as all but one of the maps he had missed, rocketing back to the top of the leaderboard and seemingly securing the W for himself. And then Eddy returned after many weeks absence, grabbing the top time on this week's track as well as every other map done so far in the competition (including one run that straight up doesn't look good but still manages to beat 1st by half a second - not even fair, Eddy), rocketing back to the top of the leaderboard and truly securing the W for himself. It was a good five minutes or so, jp.

Let's run this down. ska had the most unique run this week, although a lot of horizontal movement and a large rocket dodge at the end of his demo I think are what mostly held at the back of the pack. MiBeM and myself had very similar routes, with my beginning section being more efficient while his back half was cleaner.

golfkid, jp27ace, and Eddy all ended up with the exact same route crazily enough, Eddy's being a bit cleaner throughout. golf was right with 'em until at the end he gets snagged up on some pesky bounce blocks grabbing the gold in the upper corner. Watching his and jp's demo together looks like some synchronized dance number, highly recommended.

Week Seven

RIOT GRRRRRRRRRRRL

Leaderboard
loudog004 1045.725 +1
golfkid 1015.600 +1
MiBeM 943.325 -2
jp27ace 706.025
ska 422.600
Eddy 308.350

Head-to-Head
golfkid 4-3
loudog004 1-6
MiBeM 2.5-2.5
ska 3-0-1
jp27ace 2-1-1
Eddy 1-0-2

It's dwindled down to just golfkid and I, and he hands me another lump this week. We took very very different strategic tacks, though. golfkid floats around the outskirts of the map like a true ninja, with a quick jaunt through the rocket room before exiting via a path I hadn't even noticed was physically accessible. I, however, couldn't resist the siren's call of the launchpad and the laser baiting that entailed, swerving around to use it a grand three times. Nice job golf handing me my sixth loss.

Week Six

Don't let's start.

Leaderboard
MiBeM 943.325
loudog004 938.300
golfkid 907.475
jp27ace 706.025
ska 422.600
Eddy 308.350

Head-to-Head
golfkid 3-3
loudog004 1-5
MiBeM 2.5-2.5
ska 3-0-1
jp27ace 2-1-1
Eddy 1-0-2

Well, it finally happened that everyone used a different route, including an unexpected demo from macrohenry. And everyone was split by about a second, which is pretty cool. To my amateur eye, I can't really tell what's down to routing and what's execution since we all grabbed different amounts of gold before going up top. I think it's safe to assume that macrohenry wins on both counts. In our head-to-head-to-head, golfkid crushed with a very smooth looking run. I really love the over-under one-way maneuver into the squeezey jump right at the end. That makes it my demo of the week. Have fun all on the next map.

Week Five

TRiPPY H

Leaderboard
MiBeM 809.700 +2
loudog004 805.900
golfkid 773.000
jp27ace 706.025 -2
ska 422.600 +1
Eddy 308.350 -1

Head-to-Head
golfkid 2-3
loudog004 1-4
ska 3-0-1
jp27ace 2-1-1
MiBeM 2-2
Eddy 1-0-2

loudog004 v golfkid - Not much to say here. I couldn't find ways to avoid the blue drone or the lasers in an efficient way. golfkid nicely collected the top gold in two sections at the beginning and end of the run, as well as stealing the door switch from right under the zap drone. Just lovely.

MiBeM v jp2ace

ska's return - The amount this looks like golf's run is spooky, except for two key spots. He doesn't wait for the laser drones to fire before entering the bottom section, cutting it closer on the exit. This means he doesn't have to pause for the zap drone. It's like there's no enemies on the map at all. Primo run, ska.

Week Four

About time.

Leaderboard
jp27ace 706.025
loudog004 693.450
MiBeM 692.425
golfkid 657.050
Eddy 308.350
ska 304.425

Head-to-Head
jp27ace 2-1-1
MiBeM 2-2
golfkid 1-3
loudog004 1-3
ska 2-0-1
Eddy 1-0-2

golf, MiBeM, and myself all ended up with a similar route. golfkid left more gold hanging about that had to be re-grabbed later which explains his time gap. MiBeM, however, pushed this to what looks to be within just a few frames of maxed, given that one is limited by the drones crossing over the launchpad.

And then there's jp27ace. The route he used is pretty awesome and lets him (except for one little pause on the bottom right corner) get ahead of those pesky drones. I'm blown away, though, that he innovated this from whole cloth. This is definitely the demo of the comp so far for me. Maybe it was obvious for you, jp, but I'm seriously impressed.

Week Three

mind enclosure

Leaderboard
jp27ace 553.425 +1
loudog004 543.775 +3
MiBeM 541.850 +3
golfkid 509.250
Eddy 308.350 -4
ska 304.425 -3

Head-to-Head
ska 2-0-1
Eddy 1-0-2
jp27ace 1-1-1
MiBeM 1-2
golfkid 1-2
loudog004 1-2

Undercard
golfkid v loudog004 - golfkid has used this week to take a leisurely stroll around the map, creating a nice little demo to show off where one might begin attacking the level :)
Every week so far, I feel like I've made a pretty nice run on the map, and I've ended up with the general idea of what to do, and then I watch the top demos and realize I've got the 300 pound ninja just slamming around into walls and shit. I do think I found the quickest way to do the bottom center section, so there's that consolation at least.

MiBeM v jp27ace - And here's what I'm talking about. Finesse and gracefulness on display in both demos. It looks like MiBeM lost track a bit attacking the large chaingun room, which is what set him back on me and jp, although I do like the half gold on the way down, half gold back up approach aesthetically. jp's demo is just a clinic on thecumulative effect of a bunch of nice subtle moves, managing to crush everyone while still using the launchpad at the bottom. Lovely runs, both of you.

Main Event
ska v Eddy - Boo these men. Booooo.

Week Two

Gone with the blastwave

So after some deadline confusion and lost runs, the dust settled and everyone surprisingly ended up using the same route on this seemingly nonlinear map. jp gets the clean run award from me, very nice looking. It looks like if you smashed Eddy's jp's and MiBeM's runs together you'd have maybe 146.6 or more.
But anyway, ska beats me, MibEm beats golf, and Eddy and jp decided not to fight at all, and van submits a run but doesn't want to play with us.

Leaderboard
Eddy 307.175
jp27ace 306.125
ska 304.025
golfkid 300.950 +1
loudog004 299.600 -1
MiBeM 299.525

Head-to-Head
ska 2-0
Eddy 1-0-1
MiBeM 1-1
golfkid 1-1
jp27ace 0-1-1
loudog004 0-2

Week One

Staged

Leaderboard
Eddy 161.675
jp27ace 160.825
ska 159.200
loudog004 157.700
golfkid 156.550
MiBeM 154.500

Head-to-Head
Eddy 1-0
ska 1-0
golfkid 1-0
jp27ace 0-1
loudog004 0-1
MiBeM 0-1

Undercard

MiBeM v golfkid - Wow, right off the bat, I'm amazed that apparently you're supposed to go left to start this map. golf's variation seems a bit quicker but both ninja's enter the top half of the map at about the same time. Here, MiBeM has to wait a bit for both thwumps to get his double wall kicks off, which I think is where the biggest time loss comes in. golfkid, you executed almost exactly the same route I initially came up with for the top section.

loudog004 v ska - Yes, it appears clear my ninja doesn't know where he's going at the beginning. ska and I had similar ideas about the right section of the rocket room, but his cleaner execution through this point has him way ahead. The gap maybe closes slightly on the left-hand side, but I'm eating dust at that point anyway.

Main Event

jp27ace v Eddy - It looks like Eddy, jp, and ska all had the same idea for attacking this level, and the top times came down to clean execution. The big split between Eddy and jp looks like it came in the chimney and Eddy avoiding a wall jump on the right hand gold section. Very impressive demos from both of you.

I'm in, but I can't figure out how to add color to my row. If somebody could help me out with that it would be great. Hopefully this will help me play/compete in N a little bit more consistently. :)
[16:24] <@golfkid> I'm pretty sure I will literally scream if I die on the last column of 78-4 at this point
[16:25] <trance> Oh, yeah. That level.

[16:30] <@golfkid> It looks so simple

Sounds good, I haven't been playing much 1.4 recently but maybe this will help me get back into it.

Sounds good, LouDog. By the way, you could make the maps private listings until the deadline, so people won't be able to see other players' demos.

I'm excited there's interest in this. ska, I don't know what you mean by that. MiBeM, what color code is your highlight?

So I've found a route 1, 2, 2b, and now 3, but I don't think it's going to get me to 158, which jp has already achieved. I've got another idea in mind that I think would add a few seconds, but I don't think I've got the moves in me. Gotta practice my highscoring tricks more.

At the end of the map data, add: to make it private contest. (You can only see your own demos, not other people's.)

edit: how do you know jp has 158? Submitted a 157.1 run - since I feel it's cheap to hold off on runs and I'm sure my run will be cracked before the end, anyway.

Because I added my current score to Loudog's spreadsheet.
LouDog004 wrote:You are personally responsible for manually entering your times on this spreadsheet.
I'm not sure how its cheap to hold off submitting my run when Loudog doesn't want us watching each other's demos, but the main reason I haven't submitted it is because I'm not happy with my route ending, it was just the first one I came up with.
I'll probably submit a run in a few days once I've had some time to play it.

Nice run btw

It took me a while to see the word 'code' there, only noticed it as I was about to reply "It's lime green. Isn't it visible to others on the spreadsheet?" :P
Anyway, the RGB code is c8f659.

Implying a few seconds is shit.
I'm not sure I understand, but I was at 156ish and if I could do the tricky trick I think I could get 159ish. I can't though, and I've tied my time twice now. I don't think it's getting any cleaner.

Ah no, I meant that you mentioned "a few seconds" as if that was just a regular innov, like nothing, while 3 seconds is actually huge and an incredibly useful innov.

The start of the route I'm trying now is incredibly frustrating to me. I don't know how I manage to do this, but I can go 10+ runs in a row where I miss a pj on a slope by hitting the jump button on the single frame where the ninja is not in contact with the ground. Anything else where I need single frame precision, no chance of getting it with that kind of consistency. Have a demo to see for yourself, just load it up in the editor with display state on and go frame by frame with it. >.<

[16:24] <@golfkid> I'm pretty sure I will literally scream if I die on the last column of 78-4 at this point
[16:25] <trance> Oh, yeah. That level.
[16:29] <@golfkid> lol
[16:30] <@golfkid> It looks so simple
[16:30] <@golfkid> But it says "NO! I will rape your sanity!"

Thought I added this already, but anyway, Loudog, if you could add the current round's map ID into the subject and topic, that'd be great.

So sometime in the afternoon on Saturday in Spain.

Submitted my run, I wanted to reach 161 but I won't get any more time to play it before the deadline.
The bounce-block jump to the switch is a pain to get enough height off of.

I was having the same issue... I was actually working on the exact same route as you (minus the triple jump in the bottom right - which is really about the same speed when done properly...)

I'm still unclear about what the point of being "retroactively paired off" is. Do you mean paired up for the next round? Because if that is the case, "retroactively" is not the right word. "Paired off based on the previous round's results" would be more accurate. (This is assuming you meant that, of course - If you actually meant as it was stated, that would seem anticlimactic and some of the tension is lost.)

I did mean retroactively, as there was no starting point, and I didn't know who would be playing. I will use this week's results to proactively set the matchups for next week.
